That is quite disappointing. My last Qi-capable device was the Nexus 5. I had really hoped that in the seven years since then the tech had matured enough to actually be a viable daily charging method. Seems I may be just as well off wiping the dust from my old 2014 5W charging pad and calling it a day. /s
Seriously though, this needs to be talked about more. The "[time] until full" first displayed when using a fast wireless charger is wildly inaccurate as it invariably doubles or triples. It is a shame Google's calculations don't take into account the inevitable heating and slowing in charge speed to give a realistic projection from the start.
Given that fast wireless chargers only give you a short boost at the beginning before slowing to a normal Qi charging rate or even flattening out to a zero charge rate, it seems most consumers would be better off simply buying an inexpensive 5W charge pad to begin with. Not only would money be saved, but battery health would be improved by avoiding degradation from the excess heat of fast wireless charging. I could see the usefulness of fast wireless chargers in a car or in public spaces like coffee shops or airports where you just need a quick boost, but for individuals regularly setting their phones on the charger for ~30+ minutes at a time, a 5W charger seems to be a better option.
Shit. Can you other different cords with your computer, maybe see if it connects to itunes easily?
Otherwise, prolly hardware failure, in which case Apple will tell you to backup your stuff, reset the phone, update OS and all that fun stuff, and maybe just give you a new phone.
In any case, there is a good deal on a wireless charger today. Not that it’ll fix your problem, but just something in the meantime.
Good luck!
I use a Qi charger with a Seidio case and haven't had a problem. I use my Qi charger every night also with the case on.
Edit: Never noticed the phone warm either.
A kind of cheap one, but it works I guess.
It's slow, just like most wireless chargers seem to be, but does not seem to really warm up the phone all that much. From 5% to full takes from 3 to 3 1/2 hrs depending on placement while a direct connection using high-speed charger and cable takes around 1 1/2 hr to charge the same amount. Speaking of placement, it is very finicky about how the phone sets on the charger. The bottom can be no more than 3/4" above or below the bottom edge of the charge or it will not actively charge, while you can swivel the phone left or right ~45° so long as the bottom edges are square on both devices at 0°. It's nice and stable, profile is slightly smaller than the phone so no additional table space gets taken up. I think my biggest complaint is more about the Nexus 6 than the charger, the curved back of the phone allows it to move too much around on the charger. Especially when you have it on a work space or somewhere where you are moving stuff near it, it is too easy to accidentally bump it or the table to take it off of charge.
Overall, I would say the charge itself is a decent device for the money, but being a Nexus owner, I think spending a bit more money to get a more premium product would have been a wiser choice. Oh well, maybe in a month or two I will go for something else or just build a template to go around the charge to hold the Nexus in a secure place relative to the charger.
Might be due to the weird size of that model. If you're still interested in getting a wireless charger, this is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-TechMatte-Qi-Enabled-Charging-Included/dp/B00F1SHFJA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1423895329&sr=8-2&keywords=nexus+6+qi+charger
Works perfectly and is the same wide-ness as the nexus 6. I just plop it down with the bottom side approximately lined up.
Is there a downside to using a slower wireless charger?
I have no problems with wireless charging on my Nexus 6 and it's been 3 years.
Edit - Here is my charger
I have the Spigen Air Bumper & a TechMatte Qi Wireless (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F1SHFJA/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This combination works with no issues.

This charger didn't work for ya?
I recently bought this one as my nightly charger and it works great. It's easy to line up, too.
Well... I've got a single coil (Techmatte, http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-TechMatte-Charging-Samsung/dp/B00F1SHFJA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1451999366&sr=8-9&keywords=qi) in my car modded with magnets as a dock, that one's working some of the time.
I've got a 3 coil (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JA7HNZO/ref=s9_simh_gw_p107_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=001ENC6GV1YHA36VN1SY&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop) on my desk at home, it was fantastic with my N5, but only working about 30% of the time with my G4.
I have a 3 coil vertical stand (itian, http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-Itian-Charging-Included/dp/B012SSBMCG/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1451999515&sr=8-8&keywords=itian) on my desk at work and it's been flawless so far, just a few days now.
I have several of these. Careful...some beep when you put the phone on. This one doesn't. Works great.
Wow cant believe I didn't notice that! Same exact phone as me! Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Charger-TechMatte-Charging-Included/dp/B00F1SHFJA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434761132&sr=8-1&keywords=nexus+wireless+phone+charger
