I can’t promise any guarantee it’ll do better but this was a minor improvement over the original antenna.
My issue is that I can’t put it on my roof or I would get even better results.

Sure, though I'll warn you my setup is kinda complicated. I'm a Network engineer so instead of using something off the shelf I built my own. You can get similar setups with commercial devices but this is what I did.
The router itself is a Mikrotik Basebox 2 that I flashed with OpenWRT and installed the Travelmate package on. Travelmate will automatically connect to open Wifi hotspots (Or ones you know the password to..) and re-distribute the signal to anything connected to the Mikrotik so that covers any time I'm within a city near a hotspot.
I put a pair of Techtoo 9Dbi wifi antennas on the router to give me more range for Wifi signals (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NV807XS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Next I have a USB cell modem with external antenna jacks attached to the Mikrotik, the one I have is LTE only as its a bit older so you'll likely want one that can do 5G.
In that modem I have a Google Fi sim card for cell service.
Connected to that modem I have a pair of 7Dbi cell antennas mounted to the outside of my van(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K74FNNK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
It all works fantastically well, but might be a little bit complicated if you're not into electronics projects :)
Why not just invest in 9dBi range extender antennas? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NV807XS
Do you mean something like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABP55CK7568&cm_re=WIFI_ANTENNA-_-9SIABP55CK7568-_-Product
Or maybe a long set of antennas like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NV807XS/ref=psdc_3015438011_t1_B01MDJVPTT
Yes, moving the router to the middle of the main floor would make things much better. Another additional improvement would be some of these(https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00NV807XS) for the router, but pay attention to whether you need the male or female type of connector. They also sell a smaller 6db version, if you don't need the range.
I must say I'm not a big fan of repeaters, but my opinion of them improved after experiencing the one I did.
Many routers will report how much bandwidth is in use at a given moment. Some also report that over time. Might want to check yours when you think its at its busiest.
