I have a huge respect for the TED model of public speaking.
Not least, because it requires a huge amount of preparation. The TED guide to public speaking talks about this: every speaker is expected to memorize their entire speech flawlessly, to the point where they can deliver it word perfect and sound casual at the same time.
To do that well requires a deep understanding of your subject matter; and the best TED presenters demonstrate this beautifully.
