You just need to charge a single 1S cell? If you want something versatile but user involved you can get a simple mutli-funciton balance charger. With this you can charge not just LiFePO4 but Li-Ion, NiMH/NiCD and Lead Acid, up to 6S/15S/10S. If you want something plug-and-play you need a dedicated 1S LiFePO4 charger. Looks. like there are lots of BMS+charger boards available but they have some pretty low overdischarge thresholds (2.1V? Pretty low IMO).
I use the tenergy tb6b I really recommend it even though it does cost a bit with it you're not limited to just lipos or what type of connector it has it comes with a octopus cable (not sure what to call it) but it allows you to basically charge any type of battery with it you can program the charger to work with any battery too! amazon link
edit, I kinda care about the cost, and also amazon shipping is also really quick for me. also there's also this Tenergy one which hasn't really been recommended.
While I would still recommend spending a little more for something like a Venom charger, this is a decent charger within your budget: https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=DS9MMF9GNZ13&keywords=lipo+charger&qid=1641664974&sprefix=lipo+charger%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-8
It can also charge multiple types of batteries. Just remember to always balance charge lipos. Honestly read the instruction manual for proper use. Youll want to plug the balance leads from the battery into the balancer and then the main leads from the battery into the main charging leads of the charger. The charger will also allow you to put the battery into storage mode (3.8v per cell with LiPo batteries) for when storing it over long periods of time without use. Also, just remember to not discharge LiPo batteries below 3.2v or you can permanently destroy the battery.
I use this it’s a well known brand and works well it charges deans as well as just about any other battery.
Yeah its the right one but idk why it had to be skyrc , I'm useing this and its legit and works perfect, so I can help you 100% Chargershould be some videos too!
With Lipos I think it really is worth having a good charger, if you get it definitely watch the videos on YouTube showing how to use it before you do.
Actually, do this one instead, it does all the same functions and comes with the power supply out of the gate 👍.
The Amazon listing is pretty poorly written and vague. I believe the charging port is for a barrel connecter for an external NiMH charger, with a NiMH battery pack inside the QX7.
As for your other battery, you will need a Lipo Balance charger. I got this one as my first hobby charger. If you are unfamiliar with handling of Lithium Ion batteries, please read/watch up on proper charging and storage procedures. You can burn your house down if you don't know what you are doing.
Here is the charger, seems pretty recommended on most of the sites I've found.
Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger Discharger 1S-6S Digital Battery Pack Charger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe Packs w/ LCD Display Hobby Battery Charger w/ Tamiya/JST/EC3/HiTec/Deans Connectors + Power Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zRVUBbNY7F8RB
Thanks for taking the time to respond. That GPS was absolutely my mistake. Clicked the wrong listing on ebay. Already replaced it on an updated BOM. Definitely will mount it up and away from the electronics. Though the more I think on it I may just leave it off until i get used to normal flight.
I may still prefer the LEDs for orientation purposes. At least in the beginning. Theyre cheap enough. Same thing with the buzzer. My updated BOM has one that has the LEDs and Buzzer together.
This is the charger. Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger Discharger 1S-6S Digital Battery Pack Charger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe Packs w/ LCD Display Hobby Battery Charger w/ Tamiya/JST/EC3/HiTec/Deans Connectors + Power Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WLWcBb8SSM3YM seems to come with everything i need but I can get a beefier supply if you think its wise. Pics have the included one at 5 Amps.
Ill look into the making the smokestopper as well. Thaks again!
Hmm if it were me I probably wouldn't do it. It's rated for 8A and your power supply is only 6A. Another option if you decide not to do what you are looking at is this
Combo Special: Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe Battery Packs + Power Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BvPHyb4001D47
I have it and love it. Along with a parallel charging board I can charge 6 Lipos at a time!
all you really need is a charger than can do both nimh and lipo. There are tons to choose from. I don't have a ton of experience with chargers, but most people tend to spend more for a charger that will balance charge, store, deplete, etc. something like this should do all of that
This is what I use but it's probably overkill. I had to solder on an XT60 connector to the open connector though since it didn't come with an XT60 already. Still, it's a great charger and I haven't had any problems with it.
I bought this one and it works pretty great. Lots of good features. Comes with a wall adapter. $56 with Amazon Prime! All you need to do is solder on a XT60 connector.
The discharge rate is based on a minimum, you're fine to exceed this rating.
I watched this video about a year ago and it definitely has some good advice. https://youtu.be/lQtKgiv70DQ
Biggest take-aways are : - Get a LiPo charger with balance and storage mode - ALWAYS balance charge - Store in a fireproof bag - Store at 3.8v per cell
This is the charger I use for single battery charging: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_bOb2Fb6W3PKQQ
At the moment this is a very good price, it normally bounces around between 60-70$ on Amazon. I actually bought an extra as a spare.
I really like this charger https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0
charges most everything, so in the future you won't need another
also had good luck with these batteries https://www.amazon.com/Gens-ace-5000mAh-Battery-Brushless/dp/B01JCSOJIY
haven't lost any capacity that I can tell, and they've had a lot of hard cycles on them
heard very goo things about this
best charger I've ever had
Would this one work. I might get it
Buy a nice charger you won't regret it. https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0?ref_=ast_slp_dp
Hey reading this was a little eye opening. Can you tell me if this charger will work like the b6ac chargers you were talking about.
Link: TB6-B Balance charger
You have to charge them on lipo balance. I know they’re not lipos, but if you watch titans video this is what you have to do.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K_cvQlU5QpE
I have them and I use this charger
Even if your charger had a li-ion setting, you’re not suppose to use it.
Just search for “balance charger” or “lipo charger” This is the (sponsored) $60 original (?)
https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0/
This is a $38 clone (ish?)
https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Battery-Balance-Discharger-Li-ion/dp/B08C592PNV
Most important is to stick to the LiPo safety guidelines (NEVER pierce or overcharge, get a LiPo bag, store batteries in a safe inflammable place)
Also if you don’t have it, get a voltage alarm so you don’t discharge your battery too much (set it to 3.5v)
https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0
Just cause I want to be certain I haven't selected some knockoff like i've seen people in this sub do before. does this look right?
Currently flying with Goldbat 4S from amazon and they seem to be doing well. Using Racedayquads brand for 2s and 3s packs for my tiny whoop though.
Also this is the charger I have, I use it to charge everything from my 1s tiny whoop batteries and up. It is super easy to use and comes with a power supply.
https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B00466PKE0
I recommend picking up a parallel charging board but you can always do 1 at a time charging if you don't get one.
this is the one I have https://www.racedayquads.com/products/power-genius-2-in-1-parallel-charging-board-2-6s-xt30-xt60?variant=19431389200497
/u/spacetimmy ^ this charger is your most basic intro, I bought the more generic Tenergy combo (XT60 plug needed) and it has suited me till now (9 months). I upgraded to the ISDT Q6 plus w/ parallel board & PSU and DAMN i was missing out. So much happier now. but take /u/pkvillager 's advice if you want to upgrade later, my buddy sports the iCharger w/ a server psu and it's a BEAST.
I also rock the Turnigy graphenes 4S 65C and they have been GREAT! I know budgets hurt, but i tend to buy my lipos in two's. In the event one flakes out.
not sure if in the US, buuuut WAIT FOR MEMORIAL DAY SALES!!!!!! I have patience, and tend to wait around for sales, next ones will be memorial day. Shop around and determine the best place to get the most things.
This seems popular. This or the one you suggested? Combo Special: Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe Battery Packs + Power Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jXrUyb3A69T1X
This is the one I use and it works pretty well and comes with a power supply and pretty much all the connectors you'll ever need and room to wire up others if it doesn't.
You can also find some great deals on Hobby King. A lot of people use the Imax B6 but it doesn't come with a power supply (if you have an old laptop one that usually works)
The Accucell S60 is exceptionally good value but only comes with an XT60 connector (you can get other connectors or wire up your own). This one can only charge up to 4S LiPos but that's probably more than enough for Airsoft.
Pretty much any 4-button guy will do as long as the supplier isn't too shady. I got this guy two years ago and I haven't had any issues and the bundle comes with a psu. If you're looking to do parallel charging, you could get parallel breakout but you'll need a pretty beefy psu or you could purchase something like this bad boi. Most of these chargers take 12v so a lot of people will repurpose an old Desktop ATX psu for cheap watts.
edit: Forgot to note, if you go with a parallel breakout, you can charge multiple lipos only if they have the same or VERY similar cell voltages. The big gui is essentially two chargers in one so you can charge lipos at varying voltages.
You have a lot of options...I would just get a general purpose charger and be done with it. I have one of these and it works well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_74x5wbMBQD0YD
Combo Special: Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger for NiMH/NiCD/Li-PO/Li-Fe Battery Packs + Power Supply https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00466PKE0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_pbALwbZNYN5Y8
Would this work on the 3s lipos?
If you are for sure going to build something else like a 250 in the future then get something like this.
Buy the Tenergy. It's based on the same design, but made by a reputable company.
http://www.amazon.com/Combo-Special-Tenergy-Balance-Charger/dp/B00466PKE0
You are not putting me off.
http://www.amazon.com/Combo-Special-Tenergy-Balance-Charger/dp/B00466PKE0/
Would this be a good charger? I know it can only do 1 battery at a time, but it seems like a good place to start.
Start with a 3s battery and graduate to a 4s later. A 4s can get you into trouble quicker.
Buy spare booms and drill all of them out at the same time. This makes crash recovery easier as you don't have to get the drill back out.
This is my charger. It works. It's nothing amazing. Note that there is no XT60 connector included with it, so pick up a 5 pack somewhere if you do this. I also grabbed one of these for checking voltage in the field. They ship from China so be prepared to wait. The screen shows voltage for full pack and each cell.
Regarding telemetry, this sub favors Frsky Taranis and related equipment. Using something like the D4R-II rx means the Naze can pass battery telemetry back very easily. Most Spektrum users I've seen have been ones that upgraded to the Taranis later. Spektrum telemetry modules are large for trying to get mounted on a multicopter.
As /u/arakon mentioned, quads can be easier than tricopters. You are already buying all the quad hardware, so maybe just buy the tilt and leave it on the shelf for later. Up to you.
You can also get the Tenergy with power supply included. No promise it is the best price though.
