I bought one of these. Not miraculous, the signal must be there. But this is good at pulling a signal out of the noise or reducing unwanted ones.
I like my AM loop but it falls easily if not on a hard surface. It feels a bit cheap. The improvement is quite noticeable though. I eventually want to get this one https://www.amazon.com/Terk-Indoor-AM-Antenna-Advantage/dp/B000069EUW/ref=mp_s_a_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=am+loop+antenna&qid=1603842567&sr=8-14
Have you thought about an aftermarket AM Antenna-- I don't know how it would work in your environment, but a good antenna can sometimes make a remarkable difference-- I haven't had to do that in a long time, but something like this might make it work
Yep. Here are most of your actual options, courtesy of a website owned by our pal vwestlife:

This thing right here ...

claims to be a NEW radio that delivers full bandwidth AM Stereo. Haven't heard it myself so can't vouch for it, but it looks VERY homemade. No antenna - you have to buy one of these and hook it up:

If you'd like an HD Radio, which you probably CAN use for some local FM stations if nothing else, this one gets my thumbs up. (And it BETTER at this price.) It has a line out jack, although it's a bit too loud and you might find yourself using the headphone jack instead.: https://www.amazon.com/Sangean-HDR-16-Radio-FM-Stereo-Portable/dp/B01BY7YIOQ
Got it as a christmas gift and WOW
