I just installed the Basenor ones this morning and they popped in with no issue and my wife didn't even notice they were on. She thought they were stock.

Also the Tesla only covers the front 2 wheel wells whereas the Basenor hits all 4 wheels.

I'm still not sure about them. The front side is not smooth and will be difficult to keep clean when it starts snowing. Guess we will see

I have these Basenor ones and really like them since they are front and rear. They were very easy to install. Have had them for a year with no trouble. Note: I have a MYLR not a MYP.

How necessary are mud flaps for a Model 3 in the midwest US? And if they are necessary, would people recommend the official ones that are front-only, or a third party set with all four?

No matter where you live, I recommend PPF for the rear door/fender area and at least the front mud flaps. Any highway use and you will slowly pepper your rocker panel with debris. I am running the Basenor mud flaps from Amazon and the XPEL Rear Door/Fender PPF from Abstract Ocean There are many options for both the PPF and the mud flaps but the larger PPF cuts are the safer bet. I dig the mud flaps personally because they fit with the rocker panels well and match the curvature and design of the car.

Not sure about original commentor, but I got these, which my PPF installer said came with clips which was nice (apparently not all of them do, and some use double sided tape which will not last long).
