Well the TI-89 and TI-Inspire are both popular in the engineering field, though many engineers don't use calculators that fancy... they end up using a computer for their big calculations and simple calculators for everything else. It's a habit they pick up from the tests you have to take for certification (FE or Fundamentals of Engineering.)
A good example of an FE-compatible calculator is this.
