Watts died as an alcoholic. So... No, he's probably the last person I would recommend to a person struggling with addiction. He used to lecture soaked in vodka. Ditto for Chogyam Trungpa.
On the other hand, there are many books and support groups that use Buddhism. There are 12-step Buddhist books and groups, there's Refuge Recovery (note: a lot of groups closed down recently due to some scandals...), and most Buddhist groups are open to working with alcoholics, etc.
Here's Littlejohn's book using the 12-steps of A.A. (and N.A.) https://www.amazon.com/12-Step-Buddhist-Enhance-Recovery-Addiction/dp/1582702233 and his website https://www.the12stepbuddhist.com, which work with the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Amazon also has books by authors using A.A. with Zen, Theravada, etc.
