Oh, there's tons and tons
The Beatles: The Biography by Bob Spitz - A pretty decent modern telling of the Beatles' story. I recommend starting here, since it has most of what you'll need, since it has the benefit of research resources up to modern times. It does contain some errors, but I'm willing to excuse that (although some Beatles fans won't).
The Beatles by Hunter Davies - Their official biography, written during the Beatles' existence in the 60s - A must-read thanks to Davies' access to the band, but since it's an official bio much was hidden from him-- and he knows this. Still, it tells the basics of the story up to its publication in 1968. So no, it doesn't cover everything but their early lives are covered well here and other Beatle books refer to this work quite a lot.
The Beatles Anthology - An official book made by The Beatles and Apple Corps. It's a massive coffee table book replete with interviews and pictures, but it's not written in a narrative style, relying instead on interview excerpts, so it's not quite a beginner book and might be harder to follow. But it's all in their own words.
You Never Give Me Your Money by Peter Doggett Probably my favorite Beatle book, but since it starts at the end you have to read a few other books first. This book covers the breakup and post-breakup period up to 2009. Doggett doesn't write of the band as legends or gods, but as human men with flaws and merits. To me, this somehow makes them even more precious, not less, since Doggett is honest about the terrors and burdens of being a Beatle.
DVDs: Does your local library lend out media? If they have the Beatles Anthology DVDs or VHS, try those, or other documentaries about the band. (Do not watch any fictional re-enactment movies, just documentaries)
'Meh, OK' books : I'm not saying "avoid these!" but I am saying that they may contain lies and gossip while also being kinda fun:
That is too big a question, really. If you are going to buy just one book - The Anthology.

What will be the best book about the Beatles of course, is still being written. You can buy volume 1, however.
