The story of Urza can be read on the old books of Magic, more specifically, in the Artifact Cycle (beggining) and the Invasion Cycle (end), it starts on The Brothers' War, from 1998 and go till Apocalypse, from 2001, telling the life of Urza and his vendetta against Yawgmoth and the phryrexians.
If you want to, you can listen to The Brothers' War on youtube, Card Bazaar made a unofficial audiobook of it, also one of the origin story of Yawgmoth, leader and "god" of the phryrexians
Barnes and Noble does not carry them in store. They would be sourcing them from the same online sellers, the same as other sites like Amazon. The books are quite old now so that makes sense.
Definitely start with The Brother's War. You can read the original or pick it up in the Onmibus along with it's prequel The Thran.
Here are all the books, in chronological order (also my recommended order, other than saving The Thran for very last):
The Thran (Or Artifacts: cycle 1 Omnibus)
The Brother's War (Or Artifacts: cycle 1 Omnibus)
Planeswalker (Or Artifacts: cycle 2 Omnibus)
Time Streams (Or Artifacts: cycle 2 Omnibus)
Bloodlines (Or Artifacts: cycle 2 Omnibus)
Rath and Storm
Mercadian Masques
Nemesis
Prophecy
Invasion
Planeshift
Apocalypse
this was part of the story written like 24 years ago...

There are also a lot of awesome books you could give him. Personally I love the artifact series staring Urza one of the most badass characters in the MTG universe! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.de/Brothers-War-Artifacts-Cycle-Book/dp/0786911700&ved=2ahUKEwi_pP6j0-r2AhUhiv0HHZTPD6gQFnoECCIQAQ&usg=AOvVaw007dabmep5tRlFFk-I9AiU
The Brothers' War: Artifacts Cycle, Book I
It was also re-printed in an omnibus:
Artifacts Cycle I: A Magic: The Gathering Omnibus
Note that the reprint omits the notes section on sources, accuracy, and time.
Thus, the original printing is the best one. "The reader should trust this version and no other."
