In case you are curious, here is a reader review (actually the first one on the Amazon page and it is a bit old).
"This book was such a great read that it had to be reviewed while still fresh from reading it. The wait for book 2 is long enough to drive you batty because you can't just continue and yet close enough you are dying to get your hands on it.. Now how to write a review worthy of it without spoiling it by giving away too much.. So Just In Case I Goof {{THERE MAYBE SPOILERS AHEAD}} This book takes the Harry Potter book suitable for tweens and teens and brings forth the story in the Young Adult reading frame. DO NOT MISTAKE ME it is NOT a Harry Potter, it's firmly a different universe but it has the same themes of Good vs Evil both in the overall outlook and the personal clash of characters. It has the academy feel and friendship bonds, and the underdog that sets out to better himself in a world that expects something else. Think Potter without the lightning bolt scar, but comes to earn the scar himself and the expectations that come with it. You boo the bad guys cheer the good laugh at the comedy and gasp at the tragedy. Just when you thing OH RATS HE SET HIMSELF UP.. and then suddenly something else happens that you didn't expect. There are powers and while not spells some form of reaching an inner power and using it. The sad part is had he known at the end when a child his life would have followed a totally different path and the book would have never been near as good. The sexuality is tastefully done so that even a tween and teen can read and understand but while Harry Potter was gasp they Kissed ! This follows older characters and young love in a not shoved in your face or ignored that sex happens means. You smile at yes he gets the Girl, and wins the day and the danger that the following book promises is left looming as to what will happen. The book covers the unfairness of being a subclass to the ease of those handed everything with a silver spoon expecting to have those of the subclass to use as serfs. have I given you enough to wet your appetite or just looking at the buffet and not seeing what you have a taste for. Take a taste I think you, like one of the characters is left always hungry. ;o} This book excels at doing what a book is used for.. it entertains you, keeps you attention from cover to cover in a almost seamless manner. I honestly can't wait to read the next book and have to say VERY WELL DONE to the author Jeffrey L. Kohanek I see a very bright future ahead."
