Oh I understand what you mean exactly - I initially tried reading the full unabridged version (a scanned PDF I found online) but switched to a kindle edition I found that was free at the time. Im not sure what translation you are reading but it may be the same one as this. The most compelling parts of the book I thought were at the very beginning, and then beyond the halfway point - but mostly concentrated towards the very end (75% of the way+). My friend and I have been reading this together, and they also think it dragged on a bit in the beginning/middle. Though as another fan of Victorian era Brit Lit, I can say honestly this is the best book I have read since Jane Eyre (which was my favorite book prior to this) and would be worth continuing reading through the dull parts>! as the revenge plots are beyond satisfying!<.
