Great comment. I think we are in agreement by saying culture of male modesty I was using the language from another comment but I agree that's it a larger issue of dysfunction and immaturity about how we view the human body. I think this comes from our countries puritanical roots.
I agree with you about the uniforms. They are very functional and I wish they weren't an issue but for some reason our culture has freaked out about it and it keeping boys out of wrestling who could benefit from the sport. I also don't think that the performance is really an issue until varsity high school and college. I don't see how it would hurt performance to have some students or whole team wrestling in shorts at the middle school or freshman and sophomore levels. If the larger governing bodies are concerned about the future of their sport they will make this compromise. Singlets would always still be an option but now students would also have the more modest option. At the very least before high school. That's how we get most boys into wrestling through the elementary and middle school clubs. These clubs have been devastated by budget cuts in addition to the new sexual immaturity issue. Then after student have wrestled in shorts for 2 or three years they will be more comfortable transitioning to singlets in their high school years.
Just an idea.
> What does any of this have to do with Wrestling Singlets?
Because wrestling has decline in popularity and I think it's almost exclusively because of the singlet.
> I don't get the attempts to protect minors from sex other than from authority figures.(adults)
It's because our schools and institutions are run by lawyers and people are hyper fearful more of getting sued then anything else and rarely is it even a real threat.
I highly recommend this book about this litigation fear issue.

Yup. It's harder to remove a law then to make one. Que: over legislation.
I'm not sure how much you read but if you get some free time give this guy and his series of books a look. It will blow you away.
