"The Excellent Wife" by Martha Peace. It's basically a book for women that tells you that a woman needs to stay at home and submit to her husband at all times. Not allowed to disagree or make any decisions, and you must have sex with him whenever he wants it regardless of the health of your relationship or how he treats you.
Scary as hell.
I do not think I am a very liberal Evangelical, but my wife has recently started to read this. There are many things in it that I do not agree with.
Here is are my views: 1. single and no kids: Work as much as you need to live the lifestyle you want.
Wife wants to work: Neither person should spend too much time at work, or the family will suffer. You only live once, and you do not want to spend all of it worrying about a paycheck. Luke 3:14 says "be content with your pay"
Wife wants to stay home and take care of kids: the husband should be able to support the family.
Both husband and wife should show agape love to one another. Most people that criticize the Bible because of verses about women's roles seem miss this point, and assume that a housewife is being used. The husband, as head of the family, has to make sacrifices for everyone else.
The husband has to love his wife as he loves himself. He cannot take advantage of her. Paul says "Love your wife as Christ loved the church." in Ephesians 5:25.
