Best I've got for a guess is The Fiasco in News:
I recently came across this self-published book on Amazon, and I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised by it. It's quite imaginative, creative and funny.
The story takes place in a world full of superheroes and supervillains. It has a very cynical depiction of how such a society would work, very similar to the tv show "The Boys" in that a lot of superheroes(and supervillains) are huge egomaniacs and quite corrupt.
The main character, Adam Millard, has a superpower too. That is magically being in the right place at the wrong time. He's a magnet for (supernatural often) disasters. About once every day, he gets unwillingly involved in some mess. A side effect of his power is he always survives the disaster.
He's been kidnapped 26 times, magically teleported into pocket dimensions, been involved in alien invasions. Wherever he goes, trouble follows, so fifteen different states pay him to stay away. As a result of that, he's also been disowned by his family.
> The courts allowed me about ten bucks a day for food, and even then, they wanted to cut that down. Someone had speculated that my power would find a way to keep me alive despite not having money for a meal.
> My lawyer had countered that by demonstrating the last time I had been starving. Genetically modified bees had ransacked a farm and deposited chunks of pork in front of me because I was wearing a beekeeper suit after my own clothes were destroyed. Apparently that had happened because of pheromones, which had enthralled one of the least attractive female aliens I’d ever been chased by.
All the crazy shit happening around him has made him quite cynical and sarcastic -- the sarcasm being a defense mechanism. It's almost like sarcasm is his actual superpower. The writing has so far been quite imaginative, which actually makes it a bit hard to follow what the hell is going on sometimes, but I like crazy stuff, so I've been enjoying it. It's made me laugh out loud several times.
