Everyone should absolutely buy and read the Bryson. The audiobook is also splendid, narrated by the author.
If you want your mind expanded, I cannot recommend The Five Ages of the Universe highly enough. It's science, but not too many equations, not too much scary physics: it starts at what we think was the beginning of everything and takes it as far as it can go into a nearly infinite future. If you want a sort of stripped-down version, watch this astounding video, which likens time to physical dimensions (a cubic millimetre is a second), and see the immensity of the universe and its time scales. Six thousand years is a pittance compared to what reality looks like. The Christian god is a piker.
