There are more prominent economists which is necessary because China is now a developed cuontry and the issue is not growth anymore, but rather balanced and sustainable growth, but nevertheless there are still many with degrees in technical fields. E.g. Xi has a degree in chemical engineering. China's system of electing leaders is far more advanced than the typical Western democracy which elect charismatic populists with an attention span of an electoral cycle. See here (book), TED video.
