Correct. Hereditary accounts for 60-70 percent of cholesterol. I think cholesterol levels are over emphasized because they are big sellers. There's a great book you should read. http://www.amazon.com/The-Great-Cholesterol-Myth-Disease/dp/1592335217
I respect your doctor for pointing out that your high cholesterol isn't necessarily tied to your dietary cholesterol. I and my non-existent medical degree are a little disappointed that he jumped to statins so quickly. You may wish to do some research into those. My mother was having problems focusing and thinking until she stopped her statins (turns out statins can have some bad side effects, especially for older people). Not saying don't use them; just saying be aware of all the research.
I haven't read it (will do so if and when cholesterol becomes a real concern), but there are great reviews for The Great Cholesterol Myth.
Read the section in the FAQ "What about cholesterol and heart disease", as it discusses LDL cholesterol. With the data you've provided, the only measurement that really matters is triglyceride/HDL which in your case is almost 5 (not so good). You want this ratio to be lower, and continuing a ketogenic diet will lower it. To get more information on your cholesterol you need to have a more advanced cholesterol test such as an NMR or VAP done. The FAQ has quite a few links there that are good reads. The are also a number of good books out there on this also such as The Great Cholesterol Myth.
You might want to check out this book. All the information in the book is available online if you look for it, but the book makes it more accessible. It's also pretty well referenced considering it was written for the average Joe.
I’m just going to leave this right here…

As others have mentioned, dietary cholesterol =/= serum cholesterol. Also, your body is made mostly of cholesterol - its what makes up most of animal cell membranes. Many people have gone keto and found that they don't need medicine to control cholesterol anymore, and many of those eat a half dozen eggs a day or more. Our FAQ has a great overview on the subject as well as links for further reading.
In addition, that cholesterol is linked with heart disease has actually been shown not to be scientifically valid. There's a book on the matter, but there are quite a few articles online as well.
TL;DR - don't worry about cholesterol*
Yeah I'm not arguing either just like to have discussion with open minded people. Check this book out. http://www.amazon.com/The-Great-Cholesterol-Myth-Disease/dp/1592335217
Read one of these two books, and it'll likely change how you feel about cholesterol.

If you're still concerned get a blood test done now, and then get another one done a few months into the diet. I'm willing to bet money that your blood-lipid panel will be the same, if not improved compared to what it was at the start of the diet. This is basically what happened to me.
Yes, controversial, indeed. However, they are scientifically backed statements, and they are becoming greatly more accepted after decades of further research and further data analysis of past experiments. A very good book to read if you want more information — The Great Cholesterol Myth
