I think you should read The Immortality Key. It presents an interesting case that Jesus of Nazareth was trying to bring psychedelics to the masses as a way of enlightenment.
There are some fascinsting connections to Ancient Greece and the transition to Roman Catholicism and how religious dogma over the centuries has completely missed the orginal intent of the sacrament.

He probably was. There are a lot of votive figurines from around this era with the same wide-open eyes, and some evidence now that the ancient cult religions of that area involved a hallucinogenic sacrament...
There's several books about the possible influence of psychedelics on the Bible. One of the more well researched is called "The Immortality Key"
This book changed my perspective on the role psychedelics have played in Christianity. Really profound and makes me believe they were pretty central in the early years of Catholicism.
Probably was.
There's a good book about this:
The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/1250207142/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_PZSGMSZC0DZ35Q3C3J23?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Actually evidence pointing to Greek gods of wine and trance which the church copied to make it appealing to people who believed in previous gods ;)
Check it out if you enjoy reading well researched books.

Here is the book, he has been on a few podcasts too so easy information to find.
Your ego is about humanity, humanity is not the only species on the planet, also we are poisoning ourselves, this you can simply observe when you go into society.
Billions are starving regardless dude, jesus, there are more homeless people than ever before. That is just what I observe in America.
This is the hubris I am talking about.
There is a pretty neat book called the immortality key by Brian murisou or something along those lines that proposes jesus was a wine shaman. He knew a way to help cure you if you drank wine that wasn't prepared properly. The ancient greeks would make this wine that wasn't very good for drinking without a little help from magic mushys and weed and lots of other herbs and spices. Lazarus was even said to have been one occasion where jesus just happened to save a man from death by giving him an antidote. Dude even went overseas and chemically tested pots and clay shards for evidence and found it. Weed smoke on the walls of ancient churches and wild concoctions in the goblets. Not saying jesus wasn't a live saver but evidence points that he might have been pretty popular with the pagans. Pontius pilot was a well documented governor who refused to even hear the case against jesus until the jewish elders pestered him enough. Pontius even apparently gave jesus every chance to get out of it and refused to offer a verdict until jesus was strapped to the cross. Wild shit history is

I spelt his name wayyy wrong
For a lot of people “hot-pots of hedonism, decadence and excess, where party-goers go to engage in an unhealthy range degenerate activities” is exactly what they came for. That sounds like a perfect description of a good time.
Don’t believe me? Consult the history of the Dionysian Mysteries. Bacchanalia has long been part of our history.
I’ll also use this opportunity to plug The Immortality Key. Easily the most interesting book I’ve read this year. The author dives deep into the history of these traditions in a brilliantly groundbreaking way. Can’t recommend it enough.
The book delves into a secret religion that existed in the ancient world that utilized psychoactive substances to force leaders to experience Ego death. It's much more dense than that, but I do recommend it.

Yup. Let’s take the different personality archetypes into account. Me being very logical and visual, I needed a more shamanistic perspective. My parents are fine with a Christian perspective. Other friends Hindu perspective. But we all agree and link back to the same thing in the end.
Also highly recommend this book that investigates this theory and goes over a lot of the scientific and archeological evidence to support it.

It means Dimethyltryptamine, and its not close to acid as the other guy thinks it is, its a psychedelic hallucinogen but thats where the similarities end, its more related to shrooms than Ergolids(Ergot based) but way more powerful, its produced by your body and most likely the root of most religions.
And I am not suggesting you watch it on DMT, because that would be hard, Its because DMT is mentioned and paid homage to in these two episodes.
I think the same thing sometimes. Then it passes and I go do something else. Things get repetitive but you got to remind yourself what a homo sapiens is. You eat, work, sleep, fuck, clean your house, sweep your garden, drink your wine, drop your acid, exercise on a treadmill, wash your clothes, make your bed, play games, watch tv and so on. The earth goes round and round. Everything is a cycle. I think it’s probably normal to become disenchanted with the whole rigmarole.
That being said, psychedelics will take you to a certain kind of death - which you come back from. And it often leaves people with the insight that even though they’ll die, the other half of that equation appears to be an eternal and eventual return. Winter then Spring. Renewal. Life comes back. And every single sentient one think’s it is “I.”
So you can say a man dies and a baby is born. But it’s the same thing as saying I die and I am born.
I may be fucking this up so I’ll just refer you to “The Immortality Key” by Brian Muraresku: https://www.amazon.com/Immortality-Key-Uncovering-History-Religion/dp/1250207142.
Western Civilization’s religions and philosophy are owed in a large to psychedelic experiences which enabled people to die before they died so that when they died they wouldn’t die. That’s actually a paraphrasing of a real quote inscribed at Christian church. What does it mean? People no longer fear death after these kinds of experiences because they get a sense that it’s all part of a cycle and everything will be ok.
How would you know what it’s like to be dead when you can’t conceive of it? You’ll just find yourself alive again with no memory of the other life you occupied. You woke up never having gone to sleep when you were born. You think you’ll get to go to sleep and never wake up? I don’t think so man. Pretty much every religion cautions against suicide. Talk about making a bad situation worse. You really think dissolving into a bunch of microbes and decaying would be better than having agency to eat cake and fuck beautiful women? You only get to do that here.
I think consciousness is a resonance of the organism with it’s environment. Therefore it was never born and it will never die.
Stick around awhile. What mental health problems do you have besides anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation? Those are all nothing to scoff at by the way. Suffering can be alleviated though. What do you think you need?
You should read The Immortality Key
It details the ancient church’s relationship with drugs - mostly psychedelics and opioid type drugs. Happy reading!
>According to Plato, "the ultimate design of the Mysteries ... was to lead us back to the principles from which we descended, ... a perfect enjoyment of intellectual [spiritual] good
>Upon reaching Eleusis, there was an all-night vigil (pannychis) according to Mylonas and Kerenyi. Perhaps commemorating Demeter's search for Persephone. At some point, initiates had a special drink (kykeon), of barley and pennyroyal, which has led to speculation about its chemicals perhaps having psychotropic effects from the Ergot fungi.
>Discovery of fragments of ergot (fungi containing LSD like psychedelic alkaloids) in a temple dedicated to the two Eleusinian Goddesses excavated at the Mas Castellar site (Girona, Spain) provided legitimacy for this theory. Ergot fragments were found inside a vase and within the dental calculus of a 25-year-old man, providing evidence of Ergot being consumed (Juan-Stresserras, 2002). This finding seems to support the hypothesis of ergot as an ingredient of the Eleusinian kykeon.

I would tie the origins of the War on Drugs in the US to the Christian crackdown on use of plants and sacred ceremonies all around the world for centuries. Peyote was the first drug made illegal here in the US. Mushrooms in Mexico. The witch hunts in Europe and America. I would recommend Brian Muraresku’s book The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name for more on this. Basically, drugs have been associated with anyone who is different. And people who think differently scare us.
The article is a book review and interview with the author. The premise seems far-fetched because many of the modern "Christians" are opposed to the use of intoxicants, especially drugs that cause hallucinations. The author makes a good case for putting the origins of early Christian sects into the context of social norms at that time.
Interesting to read reviews by readers.

I am not on the side of either determinism or libertarian free will. I think that we don't know enough about the universe and consciousness to say something definitive about it.
I would like to add that, there is some interesting research happening when it comes to consciousness, for example:
Transcendental meditation
Transcendental meditation or TM is a simple meditation technique that people perform twice a day. Proponents of this technique theorize that by performing TM, we tap into the universal substrate that is consciousness. They also state that everyone can connect to it and by doing so, re-energize themselves AND THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM! I first thought that this was some new-age bulsh*t. But it seems that not only does this type of meditation decrease stress, anxiety and DEPRESSION! It also, when a large enough group is meditating, lowers the crime rates in a city......!

Psychedelics
Then you have Psychedelic research that researchers are performing at john hopkins university and other research facilities.
Johns Hopkins Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/psychiatry/research/psychedelics-research.html
It seems that a psychedelic drug called 'psilocybin' can bring forth an incredible reduction of stress in individuals that suffer from mental health! A large percentage of individuals that undergo psychedelics treatment are cured of their DEPRESSION! They also have no problems with anxiety or even addiction! Furthermore, people that have large doses of psilocybin can experience an ego death, a complete loss of sense of self. When people undergo it, it feels like they actually died and went to the "other side" aka the afterlife!

So all of this is incredibly fascinating and can really help us treat mental illness and help us to understand consciousness more. There is even a possibility that psychedelics were used in the beginning of christianity! An author named Brian Muraresku is proposing these ideas.
I would advise you to listen to this youtube video for more:

So I think that if people spend more time learning about meditation and psychedelics, we can actually figure out a lot more about the universe/consciousness and our place in it. Instead of spending our time believing in archaic myths, that have nothing to offer us than logical impossibilities and outdated morality!

Can you elaborate a little if possible? I know it must be difficult to put it into words. But if you could it would be great.
I'm particularly curious about this because I believe that there's a multitude of "God Experiences" - with different heights and depths, etc. Nonetheless, it's the most fascinating thing humans could experience.
An interesting read here:

Well said. This has been my experience as well. I have similar but less effects from cannabis too when combining. For me, psychedelics are taken by themselves or only stacked with certain nootropics to augment the trip in specific, supportive ways (ie, lions mane to support cognition)

Thats funny considering Christianity is created by people who used heavy doses of psychedelics.
I recommend reading "Immortality Key" By Brian Muraresku. https://www.amazon.com/Immortality-Key-Uncovering-History-Religion/dp/1250207142/ref=sr_1_1?crid=7PBKUL442CTI&dchild=1&keywords=immortality+key&qid=1607316028&sprefix=immortality+%2Caps%2C240&sr=8-1
He basically went on a search for ancient vases and containers and tested them for psychedelic compounds and was not disappointed.
Well, he probably was.
I think someone needs to read more and take their autism medication, recent archeological evidence has revealed that the early christians in fact did plenty of hallucinogens, something you would know if the vaccines hadn't made you overly autistic and gay.
Except there has recently been found evidence to support this, the book The Immortality Key goes into detail about the subject, and the author recently appeared on Joe Rogan and talks about the archeological evidence they found.
We know hallucinogens were widely used in the past, this isnt speculation, there just hasn't been much proof as to the abrahamic religions using them, until now.
Im going to hazard a guess and say you havent had much, or any, experience with hallucinogens? These "angels" are clearly depictions of DMT entities, its not something someone would just make up, and seeing as the substance induces encounters with beings just like this, its hardly a stretch to say they are related.

I saw that this morning. I think I’m going to order that book. 👍

> people who meet me [author Prof Lloyd-Moffett] often like to share their ideas regarding religion. They tell me about the “weird cult” their aunt Suzy joined or ask whether it is really possible that Jesus was an ancient code name for magic mushrooms (it is not).
For what it's worth: I greatly enjoyed the Professor's allusion to Allegro's SACRED MUSHROOM AND THE CROSS relative to his "No, Virginia" reply to people asking him about it - "is it really possible that...?"
The Allegro & Co legacy is among main items within my scope of interest and studies, front and center. Furnished (not to boast just sayin') with a Bachelor's Degree in comparative religion, first. And second, grad degrees in anthropology as well as (best of all?) mycology.
Thanks to OP not-moses for this thread, linking this article, which I'm sure would have never come to my attention otherwise.
I'm delighted to learn of this Professor as well with his piquant perspective on this noxious narrative, a never-ending 'theory' story. As reflects in his mention of people asking him about it.
That one's latest retread might be in a newly published book (Sept 29, 2020) that comes to my attention by Muraresku The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name - "tracing the use of psychedelic drugs from Ancient Greece through Rome and into the early days of Christianity, where they played a role―possibly a crucial one―in the new religion of Jesus Christ..." - quoting its back cover blurb sales hype @ www.amazon.com/Immortality-Key-Uncovering-History-Religion/dp/1250207142
The list of usual suspects offering rave up blurbs itself is certainly something to see - including the likes of < Graham Hancock, New York Times Bestselling Author of America Before > < Andrew Weil, M.D. > and < Deepak Chopra > for starters.
Not to detract from the 'religious Republicans, no really' main focus to such a fine detail, just on account of its key relevance to my little interests.
Just to say 'thank you' to not-moses for this article, with that little note reaching my ears - of particular interest to me.
