So I'm wanting to get into the Haruhi light novels (amazon link) but I heard the translation isn't very good. Is it worth spending the money or should I just get them from somewhere else (illegally)?
Thanks for the links.
I just checked on Amazon, and they DO HAVE THE BOOKS, this one is the light novel, while the one on BP, is the Mangas.
I ain't a manga person, I only buy Light Novels.. as of now that is :P
Thanks for always doing this!
I've got some suggestions for improving these posts in future that I'd like you to consider.
I think table formatting will make everything a lot easier to absorb and more organised, eg
Book Title | Website | Used | New |
---|---|---|---|
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya | Amazon | $14 | $54 |
The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya | Amazon | $5 | $25 |
I think it would also work particularly well on the anime figures, as you would be able to add links to MFC along with other details such as the original RRP or release date while having it look tidy.
Also, as a figure and merch collector I'd like to request that you suggest amiami as a site to buy from. They're based in Radio Kaikan (Steins;Gate anyone?) in Akihabara, which is anime wonderland, so their stock is always changing, but they have good stock, their prices are good and they have a very informative grading system for the condition of both the item and box. Their range isn't as good as Solaris but you won't pay $50 for a figure rated perfect condition only to have it arrive and be sticky from being left in the sun for over a year (happened to me with Solaris more than once). Amiami kills the link once the product sells though, so perhaps a specific search link (the exact name of the product and require it's in stock) would work instead, otherwise just a general notice that they tend to be cheaper and describe quality better.
Also PLEASE add in who the manufacturer of the figure is, as manufacturer makes a massive difference. For example, Alter is almost always fantastic quality, whereas Kotobukiya generally charges more than Alter, but their quality control is dreadful and half the time the figures are poorly made and on par with a prize figure (a $10-20 figure you win at an arcade). I know most are Max Factory, but it would be great in case you add others that aren't. If you could also add the type of figure (eg 1/8 scale, prize figure etc) that'd be great too.
Hope this helps and I don't sound rude, I love what you're doing but improving it would make it even better than it already is.
Hopefully this link works. It's the art shown for the paperback version on Amazon.
Not too uncommon; most series that get an official translation are very popular. But don't be disheartened! You can look into older series.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Toradora, Guin Saga, Kino's Journey, Shakugan no Shana, Slayers(or try here), Gosick, Seikai: Crest of the Stars, Adventures of Duan Surk, Zaregoto, Psycho Busters, Full Metal Panic. Note here. I have not bought from rightstufanime, but they have older out of print stuff.
For newer stuff that I neglected to include, The Irregular at Magic High School, Black Bullet, Strike the Blood, The Isolator, [Trinity Seven](http://www.amazon.com/Trinity-Seven-Vol-Magicians/dp/0316263672/ref=pd_sim_14_19?ie=UTF8&dpID=51CzJOSWijL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR107%2C160_&refRID=1Q3F3Y76HEVKVT3ER83G], Durarara, Accel World.
For your brother saying he read the previous lsited items already, I think he could appreciate Baccano and Rising of the shield hero. The shield hero fan translation is the webnovel, and there is a bit of diversion, and the light novel version is better edited, in my opinion. Baccano had the first novel somewhat translated, but that did not continue (to my knowledge).
So ask him about these new titles, and the 2 I mentioned again. But remember if you choose one, triple check its the light novel version.
The Haruhi Series is really good. The anime ran from 1-4 with one chapter of 5. Here is the order
If you have seen Death Note then I would highly recommend Death Note: Another Note by NisiOisiN. It follows a case earlier in L's career. Its only one volume and I love it but you can only read it after you have watched Death Note since it uses some of the same characters.
If you enjoyed the anime you could check out Sword Art Online.
Since you already have Spice and Wolf I can't really recommend any other officially translated ones. You can try this blog for a list of the officially translated light novels.
This would be the first LN then right?
Hopefully this will be the last question :P
