Well its interesting that in addition to being filmed on Bergman's Island, The Sacrifice has a cast that is distinctly German, Icelandic, Russian, British, and French. So I suppose the film almost works as an avatar for the whole European continent, which I don't know is characteristic of his other works.
P.S. as far as Kubrick goes, you should check out this Philosophy of Kubrick book. Essays about each Kubrick film, really showing how they are all thematically united, maybe even identical, including Eyes Wide Shut.
