Hmm, for your experiment... try the original Princess Diaries (the movie was dreadful, the book is fun and light and a perfect example of "voice" carrying the story), the brand-new Majix: Notes from a Serious Teen Witch (which deserves more attention anyhow), or if you haven't indulged yet, Heinlein's Have Spacesuit, Will Travel.
