another good bible book is this one - Can I really Trust the Bible? Similar to what SwanRonson has said, the bible is a historic text, there are more copies of the bible than there are of the works of Tacitcus, another historic text which we discern to be a historic record. People copied the bible word for word, there aren't many discrepancies. Similarly to Swan, I came away more strengthened in my realisation that the bible was 'fact' - but also is a collection of texts. Some are more poetry and sometimes some are rules, or just plain history, but all is good for teaching and instruction.
Maybe start with a book about the bible, and then some of the videos from the bible project for deeper understanding. Tim Mackie does a very good job of breaking down sin (watch the Leviticus episode especially)
