/u/Bleue22 though government does regulate the market, no government on their right mind would regulate the technological market out of fear that another nation (read China) would allow them to run wild enough to control the U.S. .
All those historical points were valid /u/Bleue22 however you are conflating the mechanized automation of the industrial era with the coming technological automation, which is faulty. The reason being is that with previous automation were replacing beast of machine or the muscle of economical progress, this technological advancement deals with mind an as you know where the mind goes so does everything else.
As for globalization again America is reshoring productivity that is why globalization is a non issue. However the reshoring are going towards automation not workers so your complaint is mute. As I said before China is getting into the game with automation.
Marshal Brain wrote a book describing what is going on with automation and how society would react to it in his book called Manna essentially we are in the middle of it, because everything he predicted had come true. In his second book called The Second Intelligent Species his thesis is primarily that if technology were to grow exponentially, and within a few generations we are to them what roaches are to us.
I understand you think that there would be new jobs for those displaced by automation but they will not be mass employers. As I said do you protect the past from the future, or the future from the past.
Basic Income will have to be implemented in the U.S., call it what you will economic communism, free money etc. the fact of the matter is it's going to happen.
