I think we need to explain to Trump the difference between a joke and a story that isn't a joke.
For example: joke
Take this one from Cheers: Sam and Diane are arguing because they always do. To get back at her, Sam goes to a hideaway on the cape with a bimbo and because Diane is bat shit crazy, she follows him there.
For some reason (maybe one of her parents are sick) the bimbo has to leave. So Sam and Diane are sitting at different tables in the restaurant and because they are crazy for each other, they try to break the ice. So Diane says "Sam, didn't there use to be a lobster trap in the hallway?". And Sam says "Yeah, I guess they wised up and started going through the kitchen." Anyone that doesn't have a pre-frontal lobotomy can see that this is a joke. The trap was for decoration. Lobsters don't go walking around on land, especially in buildings like restaurants. Also, lobsters are dumber than dirt and never wise up. Although they do pee through their head.

Contrast that with this story:
Trump and Kellyanne Conway go to a show in New York and decide to stay at an apartment in a skyskraper built by one of Trump's commercial real estate firms. Maybe to visit Melania. So Trump says "Kellyanne, I think Obama wire tapped the apartment". Kellyanne's response is "Actually, I think they put secret cameras in the microwave ovens". Not funny. To try to rescue this story, Trump calls Sean Spicer. "Sean, why would Obama wire tap my apartment". Sean says "I don't know, but John McCain thinks it is to check if you are communicating with the Russians to undermine US interests". Trump: "Don't be absurd, you can't trust McCain. He was captured". Serious as a heart attack. Not joke.
