There is an excellent book by Michael J. Mauboussin ‘The Success Equation, Untangling Skill and Luck in Business, Sports, and Investing’. In the book, the author helps determine which activity is most influenced by luck versus that of skill. Luck, as you've already surmised, plays an enormous part of one success in life. Much more than many of us are willing to admit.

You are not "directly attacking my assertion at all". You are attacking a single, quasi-related argument that I never made, which is easy to attack, since you get to pick the time period.
And more importantly, hockey is more random than the other sports.
