Right. What do I mean by talking to people "about things they are interested in or want to speak about"? My dream would be interviewing professionals, hobbyists or researchers about a topic they have dedicated a lot of their time and energy into. Like NPR's Hidden Brain where he talks to Sociologist and behavioral psychologists, or possibly Planet Money, where they talk to economists to explain theories. Or Malcolm Gladwell's research for The Tipping Point, where he talks to people who worked on a project that elucidated his theory.
Wow, did you read the comments in the post? Anyway, throughout history, leaders have tried to change culture with political means. Octavian Augustus wanted people to get married more and have more children. The crusades and inquisition wanted to change people's opinions about religion. Chinese are trying to control opposition. France. Politicians in the US want to try to turn back the clock. In the long run, these attempts always fail.
In his book The tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell explains that cultural changes are made by a few well connected individuals. These people have lots of friends that are influenced by their actions. This is how real cultural change is made.
I fucking loved The Tipping point.
Thanks for referencing that. Everyone should read it. The Tipping Point And then you should read Blink Malcom Gladwell is an interesting read.
