Yeah there is a lot of interesting history to the bible as literature / archeology that really throws wrenches into religious interpretation of the bible. This book called "The Uncensored Bible" was very entertaining and eye-opening.
I think the coolest thing I read in there was how the "rib" taken from Adam is a bit of a guess in terms of modern translation of the original Hebrew word tzeilah, which can mean many things.
A more likely intention of the word is baculum (Penis bone) and that the story of Gensis was actually saying that God took the baculum from man to make women, explaining why humans are the pretty much the only animal to not have a baculum, and why the penis has a "seam" down the middle..a scar from the weird surgery by God.
Really cool stuff in there.
