Main question is how much power do you need and for how long?
/r/flashlight would go nuts with this, but I have a few suggestions for you:
Less runtime/lighterweight:
More power/runtime using an 18650 battery, but heavier. These are better lights of course, but I can say that 18650 lights on my head really do feel heavy/uncomfortable.
No matter what you get I'd suggest avoiding ones that require 3 x AAA batteries - they would just be annoying to swap 3 cells like that, particularly in the dark.
Also please note that you might want to check waterproof/impact ratings etc for SAR purposes.
My last mass-produced headlamp was a Black Diamond Spot, circa 2007. I am very gentle on my gear and that thing was beat up in 2 years, started glitching out in 5 and dead at 7 years. By dead I mean it would take 20-50 pushes of the power button to get the thing to turn on and when it did, the light was often dim and/or intermittent. It was powered by 3xAAA, which was always an awkward and rather heavy device. Buy a 4 pack of batteries and you have one outlier. Buy an 8 pack and your have two outliers. But if you bought a 24 pack you were golden. Same goes for rechargeables.
After being my 3rd plastic-based headlamp from the likes of Petzl and Black Diamond, I was done with them. I would've likely stuck with those brands, but they don't offer anything other than plastic headlamps.
If you haven't yet, look at the single AA machined aluminum headlamps. I personally love the Thrunite TH20 ($30 but wait until they get the neutral white version back in stock) and the Zebralight H53Fc ($60 their site is oddly not working ATM). I have put the power buttons on both of these lights through WAY more activations than I ever did on my Black Diamond Spot.
Many people have switched from red-light lamps to ultra low lumen lamps. Meaning, it's not a red light, but the light output is so low it doesn't screw up your night vision, bother other people and you can still read all colors on your maps.
Both mentioned headlamps have ultra low lumen modes, though the Zebralight is programmable and has some seriously sweet very low lumen modes, IIRC as low as 0.01 lumens. The Zebralight is also lighter than either of your Black Diamond lamps and has the single most efficent LED driver available - I can get about 2 weeks of runtime from a single rechargeable 1900mAh NiMH AA cell in the summer time. In the late fall, I can get about 1 week runtime, due to the shorter and darker days.
