> All I did in high school was play vidya and watch fucking TV.
And whose fault is that? 😒
Also, "books on 80s esoterica and the Bermuda Triangle"? Like these?
I may or may not have those books. 😹
Right before that, it was the Unsolved Mysteries UFO episodes in the late 1980's early 90's, and the Time Life; Mysteries of the Unknown in 1991.
The quality and popularity of X-files probably had some influence on popularizing the UFO/Alien phenomenon. But there was a big increase of UFO/Aliens around that same time which led to shows like Ancient Aliens in 2010. Now it seems that aliens/UFO phenomenon is fully mainstream and you can't even talk about Egypt or the pyramids without someone mentioning aliens.
Lots more. According to Amazon, like 33 volumes.
Time Life; Mysteries of the Unknown (Complete 33-Volume Set) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0028SP8RM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GVNZ3MZTN3DX6CAMEP30
Amazon has the whole set for sale for $350.
There's a full list of the titles on the Amazon listing for the set! I'm missing six of them, I'll now be on the hunt at second hand bookstores

I will leave this here for those with a little extra cash
Pretty sure it was a set from Time Life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysteries_of_the_Unknown also seen here for sale:
https://www.amazon.com/Time-Life-Mysteries-Complete-33/dp/B0028SP8RM or here by the book:

Was it the Time Life Mysteries of the Unknown series? The dustcovers were more colorful I believe.
Time Life had a huge Mysteries of the Unknown series https://www.amazon.com/Time-Life-Mysteries-Complete-33/dp/B0028SP8RM that had blueish covers (they also had an Enchanted Worlds one that dealt with mythological creatures, but that wouldn't have had UFOs in it)
Another big series was Man, Myth and Magic: an Illustrated Encyclopedia edited by Richard Cavendish, also blueish covers
Both of those were adult series, but were often put in the YA section.
I wanted those books so bad. I'm going to see if they are available at the library. I'd love to look through them. Found the series on Amazon for about $250: https://www.amazon.com/Time-Life-Mysteries-Complete-33/dp/B0028SP8RM
