According to this, the disease is small pox. Might be worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.

Not sure if you saw The Division short movie (I think it was on Amazon) but it did exactly this. It basically was a back story of what caused the outbreak, then the first wave of 4 people get activated all from their perspective and they deal with cleaners and other thugs on the street, then they all meet up and head down the street as it fades into the cover of The Division.
It's only about 20 minutes long or something, and the acting was so-so, but it was still neat to see the game like that.
Little bit late but, there was a short film on amazon video for the Division that was actually pretty cool

It was interesting. Not the best, starts kind of slow, but I enjoyed some of it.
