You just want to get a phone holder honestly. If you're checking your phone occassionally then the built in charging area is fine, otherwise you're better off getting a phone holder that keeps it more at eye level. There's a good one on Amazon that has a bracket that sits on the top of the screen, then has a phone mount on the left or right side.

This was the solution: Plus a 6 ft USB cable that I tucked under the side center console and plugged into the left USB port. It works great , and phone charges fast!

the i-Dog was also modified to be powered off of a cable I made that runs to the center console area, but getting the aux input / integrating with Spotify is a nightmare I haven't quite solved yet, thankfully the i-Dog will also just dance to things it hears over it's microphone

you can't see it in the picture but there's also a small 3D printed holder that keeps the i-Dog in place so it doesn't fly off the dash

I love this phone mount. I get all the CarPlay functions I could possibly want.

I have this on my 3, clips on to the screen so no suction/sticky residue required, also doubles as a wireless charger (2019 3, so I don't have a wireless charger as standard).

It works great and when I go on longer trips or areas I am less familiar with I use the mount and run Waze. The group feedback about everything from police to potholes is just hard not to enjoy.
It would be nice to use Waze through the onboard navigation setup. Also this mount setup gives you a place to hang an air freshener.

I replaced the cell phone holder (because it has a general ball joint) with a manual one when I had an iphone 7 plus and now with a MagSafe one since I'm a 13 pro max. it never moves, sunglasses in the perfect location and you can hardly see it.
