I got a pair of these jacks and my car sat on them for over a month (you know how it goes) with no problem at all. I climbed in an out of my car a few times, hammering and prying on the suspension, leaning over the engine bay. They are aluminum, they use a pin retainer with a ball detent to help secure the pin
I just went on Sunday to HF to buy some jack stands. They were completely sold out but had one set in display. I went on Amazon and ordered a similar looking set. I never trusted the ratcheting jack stands and have always prefered something with a pin. Hoping I made the right purchase. These arrive tomorrow: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XTGCI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_G1KX4J5DCW1V2HB1EFFP
I saw some like these on YouTube where some guy with a monster hydraulic press crushed then to failure and they were actually pretty strong. Im tempted to buy some since they come apart and store more easily. Also I figure the flat bases would work better than traditional stands on soft surfaces.
just be sure the height is appropriate.
I don't trust floppy handle jack stands. Switched to these a few years back and all my anxiety disappeared.
Get a low-profile jack and 2 tons is fine unless you're lifting the entire car up off the ground. I have these jack stands and wheel chocks.

I could get away with only buying two, then using my current jackstands for the other half of the car. Still quite pricy, though. Was thinking maybe I could try smaller stands like these. I could then attempt to fit both jack and stand on the same weld, but still may not be possible. It's a very small width on this damn car.
I've decided none of the HF jackstands are worth the risk. There is another post in this sub with the aluminum one splitting down the side. After some research I found some nice light and quality aluminum ones with pin drive instead of ratchet, that alone makes me feel better. I replaced my HF stands with them, all good. For those interested:
I returned four of these and replaced them with these:

Absolutely fantastic decision :) Screw that ratchet design...
safejacks.com Has some base plates to use with their bottle jack extensions. Or you can buy the stand and extensions in a kit, but $300 for a single stand with extensions and saddle.
I've seen some similar to these ones on Amazon locally, but they are shorter by 5" than my stands and only a bit less bulky.
This is as close as I could find: http://www.amazon.com/Torin-T43004-Aluminum-Jack-Stands/dp/B0007XTGCI
I'm on mobile and not sure how to link, sorry!
Took another look. I'm thinking maybe these jack stands won't work well for this car. I think I'll return them and get something else.
Maybe something like this will work better?
These are the ones I have:
No moving parts. No steel or metal that rusts. No ratcheting system that fails over time. You just jack the car up, put the pin into the appropriate height hole, then put the jack under the frame. That's it.
