I've had those for several years and they still work great.
This one seems to have good reviews on amazon.
I've heard if you use distilled water it ends up more clear.
Just buy this, boil the water before you freeze, or use distilled, and save yourselves some money :)
> I wondered what kind of ice maker they had.
Are you genuinely curious? I use these:
They are probably the same price at a Bed Bath or Crate & Barrel.
Yeah, I have some mineral water that I sometimes try watering down my bourbon and I also have some of these ice ball molds to water down and cool the alcohol burn but I have found I prefer to have the full blast of taste and burn from a small amount of bourbon rather than dilute a larger amount. Honestly, half the enjoyment is in just holding the glass and sniffing the contents before even taking the first sip.
For food safety, I'm going to try using a spherical silicone ice mold instead. They're also great for making ice balls to cool good scotch without too much dilution. (Got one as a stocking stuffer for my husband a few years back.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ACTN54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_bM2VwbVS5J34V
I have this set (actually I have 10 of the sets!) and I love them.
The issue /u/DancesWithElectrons describes about the "mushroom" effect is less prevalent I find with the round balls since you can roll the ice ball in the glass. Plus they fit in most all the glasses I've found.
Many cheaper sphere ice molds available on Amazon but they don't turn out this clear

I saw these ice sphere molds that get good reviews. There are ice cube trays with lids but doesn’t sound like you need a 4-pack of them!
I know several people that have this one and it works well
I use https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ACTN54/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for spherical ice. Works well enough for me, although it's a bit big for my cheapo Ikea "rocks" glass.
There are various molds out there, but I have these ones which I was thinking about: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ACTN54/
And if it doesn't work for these eggs, they do still make good ice spheres 🤣🥃

Fancy ice molds can be cool.
good ingredients. if you want to take it up a notch, upgrade your ice game
These guys. Likely not the best but they work.

Personally I wasn't crazy about this brand. They work ok but they do not stack. Fir ice balls I prefer the Tovolo brand.
Recently I picked up these and I really dig them. Much more space efficient.
The soap stone type do work better than the metal versions. Similar practices are where the term "on the rocks" originated.
Alternatively, if you do go with ice, there are sphere molds out there that will reduce melting and watering down compared to regular cubes.
I got curious of the Sphere ice molds so I found it here if anyone else like a gander. Now if you'll excuse me I'll be slipping back to /r/all and you'll likely never see me again...
Damn, they're giving them out for free now? I got mine here.
