Please correct me if i'm wrong, but you meants this one right? If that's the one, I honestly don't think its that expesinve:) I mean, dear lord, there are 1,752 positive reviews on Amazon.
This stuff works really well for me. It's a water based exfoliator that's super gentle and super effective. Its gross/fun but what you do is let it sit for a min and then rub on circles and the dead skin literally balls up and will fall, so do it over a sink. I found it while browsing through Korean skincare products after researching and browsing r/skincareaddiction and an Asian beauty sub.
I have cystic acne and the most ridiculously dry, sensitive skin. Most things marked for "sensitive skin" still irritates my face. It's a real pain in the ass.
For an exfoliater I use Natural Aqua Gel Cure (not an affiliate link, I just use this product). It's on sale right now, too. I pay $45 for it normally but it lasts quite a while.
There's some debate on if it "works" or not but I love it. I can't scrub my face, I can't put chemicals on my face without looking like a lobster. This stuff is awesome. It keeps the flakiness at bay and my face so soft.
Apply it with dry hands to dry skin and rub in circular motions. It's the best!
Chemical exfoliation is a good idea. I use this. It's good b/c no much how much I apply, it'll remove only the dead skin cells and not overexfoliate my normal skin-something I did all the time when I physically exfoliated.
I guess just see what your dermatologist recommends. You're a lot more conscientious with skincare than I was when I was your age!
You could be experiencing hyperpigmentation, something I don't know too much about, but there is a link in the sidebar. Check whether the advice there is relevant.
Did your parents have acne? How did they deal with it? My dad had acne until he was in his early 20s and it cleared on its own. The same thing happened to me. I didn't see any dermatologists b/c all of them in my area are crap.
i've been using cure to exfoliate my face for awhile now, but i've recently started using it on my lips as well. i think it's a lot more gentle than a scrub. i also always sleep with the bite agave mask after using liquid lipsticks!

This cleanser is amazing and costs half the price in Japan (score!) https://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250ml/dp/B001ABLKK2
I love the Belief line from Korea, they have this moisturizing gel that's fab. I'm hoping I'll find it there. I've gotten it a few times as samples from Sephora.
I'm obsessed with the sheet face masks, though you can get them cheap on amazon US. but those are so fun.
And there are various Shiseido products I like but that starts to get pricey. We'll see how it is there.
I found this blog which has a few of the things I've mentioned and some more I want to try: http://blog.fromjapan.co.jp/en/recommended/10-japanese-skin-care-products-that-are-healthy-for-your-skin-wallet.html
Oh and Mascara! They have the best mascara with ridiculous names.. DollyWink is one that comes to mind. They are cheap, like $5 so I'm going to grab a few.
2420yen per bottle on Amazon Japan.
$28.99 isn't a bad price considering they are paying eBay fees, PayPal fees, and offering free shipping.
Yeah, something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Toyo-Full-body-Water-based-Exfoliator-Youthful/dp/B001ABLKK2
Maybe a gentle gel peel such as this one could help align with heavy moisturizers
https://www.amazon.com/Toyo-Full-body-Water-based-Exfoliator-Youthful/dp/B001ABLKK2
It's always scarce on real store because Chinese tourists buy up...
If you type "peeling gel" in Amazon, you'll get a list of many. This one is a holy grail for many: (The Cure, $39 for about 10 oz) https://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250/dp/B001ABLKK2/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=peeling+gel&qid=1553466716&s=gateway&sr=8-7
For some reason, my absolute fave is the following one (Vivo Per Lei), but I cannot STAND the excessive packaging. https://www.amazon.com/Vivo-Lei-Contains-Exfoliator-Blackhead/dp/B003SSTL42/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=peeling+gel&qid=1553466345&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
So, I now mostly go by price. Currently using the following (2 huge tubes for $10). Not my fave, but super cheap and it works alright. https://www.amazon.com/Epielle-Gommage-Peeling-Gel-pack/dp/B07BW8R7DM/ref=sr_1_16?keywords=peeling+gel&qid=1553466591&s=gateway&sr=8-16
In that case some gentle exfoliation will help. If you don't like AHA, you could try a microfiber wash cloth, konjac sponge, swiping with a cotton square loaded with toner, etc. Be very careful about drugstore scrubs, as some of them have microscopic jagged edges that cause tiny tears in your skin.
My favorite physical exfoliator is Asian "peeling gels." Despite the name, it doesn't cause skin peeling. It is a watery gommage (instead of Western hard rubbery gommages) that "scrubs" with a soft polymer material. Your skin will be very, very smooth afterwards with no damage from sharp bits like sugar or St Ives apricot scrubs. Cure Aqua Gel is the famous but $$ option. You can also try one from the drugstore brand Rosette

I really like Cure Natural Aqua Gel as an exfoliator. It's great for sensitive/dry skin, but I find it works best when my skin is bone-dry, before any cleansing whatsoever. I also like using my second cleanser with a konjac sponge, which also works for exfoliation.
I had this issue! It's so frustrating. I too have combination skin, for reference. The things I've found that have helped me are the Cure Natural Aqua Gel (this made the biggest difference I think) and religiously using Paula's Choice 2% BHA gel. I've also been moisturizing a ton and have found that using the Hada Labo Gokujun Lotion helps my skin absorb moisture better, and/or helps combat some of the dehydration that I think causes flakiness for me.
Some other things I have tried and found helpful: using a sheet mask at least once a week, and gentle exfoliation using something like a konjac sponge once a day. Make sure none of the cleansers you're using are too harsh/drying for you skin too!
is the cure the same brand as the one that makes this product because i know some people really like this product
I've been using prescription Retin A about every other day on my skin since I was 25. I'm now 33 and I don't even have the hint of any wrinkles. I swear by it. People always think I'm mid 20s. My mom started using it when she started having random breakouts when she turned 60 and it has made her look about 10 years younger. I got the RX after some minor breakouts and it can make your face a bit raw while you first get used to it so you just have to find a rhythm - I started out doing it every third day. My dermatologist told me to stay on it for wrinkle prevention as it is the #1 thing besides sunscreen that he has seen work for preventing wrinkles. Retin A is a chemical exfoliator. My dermatologist also said NEVER to use mechanical exfoliators because people typically do more harm than good. He said it is much better to use chemical exfoliators.
Here's a great chemical exfoliator if you do not plan on going the Retin A route: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABLKK2
He also said that most people don't apply ENOUGH sunscreen to get the coverage on the bottle. In order to get your 30 SPF facial sunscreen to actually give 30 SPF worth of coverage, you'd have to cake it on. He told me the best thing to do was get a 80+ SPF sunscreen because if I apply it like regular lotion it will give me at least 40 SPF worth of coverage. Seriously, if you are not wearing sunscreen every day, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Even if you live somewhere perpetually cloudy, your skin can still start looking old from sun damage.
I love this sunscreen. It is not too oily feeling once you rub it in and I have incredibly sensitive skin but it has caused no breakouts: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037LOQQI
NO TANNING BEDS EVER EVER EVER. Maybe they make you look healthier and skinnier and all glowy in your 20s but you should see some of the girls I went to high school with who have been tanning for 15 years at this point. At 32-33, their skin looks 45.
Girls in your 20s - take care of your skin now and it will reap massive benefits later.
In order of importance: 1. Reduce sun damage and exposure. 2. Consider Retin A or use another chemical exfoliator. 3. Get enough sleep. 4. Drink water. 5. Eat lots of plant foods.
If your skin is breaking out, give it a break from constant makeup. Yes, it sucks in the short term to feel uglier but think of it as monk mode for your skin. Get the acne under control then start adding one makeup product at a time to see if it causes breakouts! Consider non-comedogenic makeup as they are dermatologist approved to cause less breakouts.
If I do wear makeup, I use Neutrogena Powder: http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-SkinClearing-Mineral-Powder-Classic/dp/B0033PSM6S
And then this if I feel like I need more coverage. This is the only pricey item I use but I feel like it is totally worth it as it does not make me look like I have make-up on and it does not make me breakout at all: http://www.sephora.com/immaculate-liquid-powder-foundation-mattifying-oil-free-P301802?skuId=1340991
Putting makeup on bad skin is like building a house on a faulty foundation, if you invest in your skin, you will always look better in the long run even with less makeup on than another girl!! You will exude health and youth which is very important to your overall looks!!
EDIT: To add in my skin routine and some make-up suggestions:
Morning - Splash water on my face to wake up complexion and get the sleep out of my eyes, no need to wash your face more than once a day because you will get dried out. Apply vitamin C serum: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UGBJTEQ Apply sunscreen I linked above.
Evening - Wash with CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, pat dry - very important not to rake and pull on your skin while drying especially the most delicate skin under your eyes, apply Retin-A every 2-3 days, apply Pond's Wrinkle Cream because I really feel like it helps my skin not get dried out by the Retin A: http://www.amazon.com/Ponds-Anti-Wrinkle-Cream-Rejuveness-14-1/dp/B004LZM6TI
Once a week, I apply a sheet mask to really hydrate my skin since the Retin A dries it out. Sheet masks are amazing. You let them sit on your face for 15-20 minutes then rub the product they leave behind into your skin. This is my favorite one: http://www.amazon.com/Etude-House-Need-Mask-Sheet/dp/B00T5JLDTO
also, this chemical exfoliant is extremely popular: http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250ml/dp/B001ABLKK2
The only additional product I'd suggest is Cure Natural Aqua Gel: http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250ml/dp/B001ABLKK2. It provides super gentle exfoliation for all those flakes. Good luck! x
I'm not so sure on chemical exfoliants. My skin is really sensitive so I try to use things that won't irritate. I use a really lovely one from Origin's (http://www.origins.com/product/3854/10858/Modern-Friction-/index.tmpl) -- I use it about once a week along with the scrubbing with a flannel. Another that I use is Cure Natural Aqua Gel (http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250ml/dp/B001ABLKK2) but it's in storage currently awaiting me in March!
Ohhhh maybe I'll post it one day! I think it all has to do with how you take care of your skin, though. Like the issues you've described to me don't make me say "yes, that's dry skin"-- it makes me think "dead skin, and dehydrated" which oily and dry skin can both get. But I have dry/normal(!) skin, and even though I get zits every now and then it doesn't make my skin combi.
Dead skin is something that everyone should be concerned about because if you're not getting rid of it, you're just moisturising/treating dead skin. Which isn't very helpful.
In case you're wondering: my routine is basically this: Shower, scrub face w/ flannel, exfoliate face (if it's that time of the week), [cleanse]&/[toner/lotion], [serum, moisturiser]/[oil]/[moisturiser].
! = It's amazing that I can now say this, but after a few years of having baths twice a week and skin regime being down phat, I can actually say my skin is now "normal" oft times than not!
Sorry, long post is long. I've been honing my skin care techniques for awhile. Helping my BFF as well with her's (she has oily). Everyone in my life has oily skin, it seems. Oh, the partner uses an in-shower face scrub from Kiehl's (http://www.kiehls.co.uk/male-grooming/by-category/cleansers-pre-shave/oil-eliminator-cleanser) I KNOW it says it's for MEN but IDK WHY. Because it's GREEN? who knows. Kiehl's, FWIW, is obliged to give EVERY customer that asks at least 3 samples. They are tiny ones usually, but might be worth a shot to try it (if you're near a shop that has a Kiehl's counter). OH-- the Partner's mum has oily skin as well and she uses the Origin's one that I linked above.
takes a deep breath okay I think it's bed time. If you ahve any more questions feel free to ask! I'm happy to help :)
If you're looking for specific products, most Japanese women use this Cure exfoliating gel stuff. Apparently a bottle of it is sold in Japan every 12 seconds: http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Natural-Aqua-Gel-250ml/dp/B001ABLKK2
This "best selling exfoliator" gets great reviews but its expensive. I was happy to find a source for samples. You can check out reviews here
