I'll suggest, for the same price or less, Toyo T6 earbuds. I use these for 8+ hours including for 60-90 minutes of strenuous exercise every single day and love them so much that I bought another set just in case I lose or break the first one. I've had them for about 4 months now and I paid $40 on amazon fwiw. Great case as well, good strong magnets, although if you use it a ton like I have you may run into the occasional issue of the earbuds still trying to connect even when in the case because they're not properly seated - just need to clean the inside of the case out and the contacts on the earbuds in that case. Highly recommended and thoroughly stress tested.
My only complaint is that the touch sensitivity is pretty high so occasionally you can accidentally pause or go forward/reverse if you accidentally touch it or nudge something with it, and if you're a heavy sweater during exercising (or run in the rain a lot, which I do), you may need to occasionally dry them off a bit as if they get a little wonky with moisture on them presumably due to that touch function. Otherwise, I haven't spent $40 in a better way in recent memory.
Edit - sorry, not toyo, Tozo - link below for clarity's sake:

I did not have giant expectations from these tozo t6 wireless earbuds, but I have 2 now that I rotate between and I love them! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RGZ5NKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_1ZS726Q1M4VFR8DHE2VC
Unless I'm running, I wear them one at a time, and get about 8 hours per earbud. I love that I can charge one and wear one constantly. I charge the case about once every 5 days or so.
They pair incredibly easy, and have no issues pairing with my Garmin watch or phone. Pretty far range compared to others I've tried as well.
I wear them in the rain and never had any issues, and had the charging case go through the wash once with one earbud in it, and they are totally fine. Very impressed. Only once, in the rain, it paused my music a couple times because it perceived a raindrop as touch, but it's never happened again so it might have been a weird fluke.
The only time they slip out is immediately after I get out of the shower.
One minor downside is that they are "touch" activated and not a physical button, so sometimes I accidentally pause when putting my hair behind my ear, or whatever, but it's not that bad and they are still my number one pair. 35 bucks can't be beat, either.
For sure. I can see that. I bet it's fairly annoying when watching YouTube/Netflix too since the mouths wouldn't be synced. Well, if you're in the market for some fairly inexpensive earbuds that just work, I highly reccommend the Tozo I suggested earlier. Here's an Amazon link if you decide to check them out. Take care!
I refuse to pay significant money for wireless earbuds because I just know I'll lose them down a subway grate or something. But I have these and they work great. They're not technically noise cancelling, but honestly I often choose not to wear both at once because I find that they block out too much noise and I can't hear what's going on around me. It does look like the same brand has a noise cancelling version if you want to go for that model instead.
I actually can't imagine going back to constantly ripping shit out of my ears or off my head from moving around doing stuff. Or the audio connection only sounding good when the cord is just perfectly and precisely centered in the port with the phone perfectly flat, and even then only for a couple months until it inevitably degrades and/or gets fucked up.
These are literally $30 and they sound better and have lasted longer by far than any lightweight aux device I've ever had.
TOZO T6 might be a good choice! They’re VERY SLIGHTLY ergonomic but they fit very comfortably in either ear. I’ve had my pair for a couple of years now and they’re still going strong. Unfortunately I don’t think they’re have a transparency mode but tbh I usually wear it a little further out so ambient sounds can still get in. I hope this helps!
I assume your macbook has bluetooth? I would just get a cheap pair of the airpod knockoffs.

I use these ones just for general use with my phone and I was surprised at the sound quality. Mind you, that doesn't mean they are at all accurate or anything like that. They just sounded a lot better than I expected them to when I bought them. But like you said, you aren't doing any critical listening, so they should work fine.

I only had an earbud fall out once, and it went straight into the fryer.
Took me a good 30 seconds to get it out, but after letting it cool down and cleaning it off, worked like new.
Tozo earbuds are awesome for the price.
I bought these about three years ago. You can charge them wirelessly, they block out lots of sound and sound really nice! Waterproof, with touch controls. I really love them. Right now, it looks like they are 50%!
I use the Tozo T6. $30, 187,000 reviews on Amazon, about 4.5 stars.
Pairs effortlessly with iPhone, battery level shows up on the iOS battery widget, and you can control the track from the buds.

Straight from Amazon , 186000 thousand reviews and still 4.5 star.
If you could manage to up your budget even like 15$ you can find much better, much more durable buds such as these. I've gone through dozens of earbuds from 5$ - 20$ over the years, and once I got my first decent pair, it was a world of difference - and I've had them for 2 years.
Well then, I have a pair of Tozo T6 wireless buds that’s fully compatible with iPhones and it’s only $33. You don’t have to cough up over $180 for a pair of AirPod Pros if you don’t want to. There are plenty of choices.

These are by far the best you can get, 170k 4.5 star reviews and currently on sale. Even the packaging they come in is superior to other crappy ones we would get with sweatshirts as teens.

I bought these a few months ago and they work great. $25 bucks and I’ve had no issues with them so far. Great battery life and sound great. I’m with you and worry about losing/breaking an expensive pair of AirPods. If I lose these, it’s only $25 and I’d gladly spend another $25 on them
Phenomenal value. There is almost always an additional 30% off so their usually about $25. Far better battery life then Apple’s and minimal sound difference and great for calls.

>it seems like on average people want a little more than that out of their headphones
I mean... I guess? I don't have any hard data to argue against this but it seems to me like most people buy beats or airpods because they're trendy and because Apple has a hell of a marketing team, NOT because they're actually audiophiles demanding higher quality.
>features like surround sound (Atmos support), noise cancelling, and Siri integration are features not found in most lower priced headphones that can be hard to give up once you try them
Yeah I just want a background to my workout, I don't want to pay for a symphony or something here. Also, I haven't owned an Apple product since my iPod Touch some fifteen years ago. I don't spend more than $250 on a phone, either.
But now i want to try AirPods to see if I can actually tell a difference between them and my Tozo T6's, because a lot of these conversations in this thread remind me of the time i was arguing with my dad about whether he could tell the difference between CD quality and MP3 on his super-expensive home stereo system. He swore up and down that he'd be able to... he couldn't.
I use Tozo T6 earbuds from Amazon and have had no problems with them. Been using them for about a year. I get 4-5 hours per charge with them:
If you're looking to save money but still have a decent set of wireless earbuds, I've had no problems with these for over a year:
I am on my third pair of tozo t6 earbuds in 3 years, and only replaced them because oi lost a single earbud once, and then because I found them on sale and wanted a backup. (The black pair of an extra 30% off at the moment too, now I'm considering another backup lol)

During the day I wear one earbud at a time and it lasts easily 9 hours, and I love that I can wear just one, and charge the other at the same time. I charge the battery charging case maybe once every 4 days, but they are literally in use almost all day every day.
I know all ears are shaped differently but mine NEVER fall out when running. I've also accidentally run them through the washer and they dried out and worked just fine after They're inexpensive and great!
The thing is you don't have to buy an apple airpods or apple wireless charger.
You can buy very affordable wireless earbuds and wireless charger on amazon without shelling out hundreds of dollars on apple products.
I recommend Bluetooth earphones especially the ones that have the rubbery insert. I use these and they barely ever fall out: https://www.amazon.de/T6-Headphones-Bluetooth-Earphones-Microphone-Black/dp/B07RGZ5NKS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1GOUF1VZHIQVW&keywords=tozo+ohrhörer&qid=1670333201&sprefix=tozo+earphones%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1&smid=A19UKHWWQU92KM
I have a motor head jerking tic that can get pretty incense and they haven't fallen out. They have only fallen out when I am eating something bc of my jaw moving my ears.

I hope this helps
These look like they have decent reviews, are they any good?

Check out the Tozo line, I have the T6. They are awesome and always on sale. See - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RGZ5NKS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o06\_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
I've got these. They work great for my purposes, but I'm nowhere near an audiophile.

I'm a big fan of the Tozo T-6 wireless earbuds, off amazon. The quality and service are actually top notch. https://www.amazon.com/TOZO-T6-Bluetooth-Headphones-Waterproof/dp/B07RGZ5NKS
I got these and I love them. I also have small ears and these fit well! Also bonus points for not being crazy expensive https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07RGZ5NKS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_dl_4D57Q7AGYXQFQG8X4XBY
i have a helix and daith and these work surprisingly well for me! they stay in securely for walking, cycling, etc without discomfort from the piercings.
These are really good for the price. Comfortable and no connection issues. I use them for music listening during walks. Sound quality is better than I expected for the price.
$40, sound better then the galaxy buds gen 1, slightly less comfortable but amazing value for the money. Have had them 10 months so far, no issues.

If you're looking for wireless headphones/earbuds, my wife got these for my birthday and I think they're pretty good. Keep in mind you need a Bluetooth adapter for your computer but they have pretty good audio quality.

An example I use to express my frustration with how hard it is to find quality items is the search term "bluetooth headphones". Try to find a brand-name set without extensive filters or specific search terms. Here are some specific listings that hit on many of the OP points. they are FIRST PAGE search results for "bluetooth headphones". In fact that page, including the "top brands" section has zero items by a reputable brand like Sennheiser or Bose.
I bought these no-name ones off Amazon and I've loved them. Wireless charging was a must for me. They have a mic so I can talk hands free as well.
