Do you have a router now with Ethernet ports? Go buy a long cat5 or 6 cable for something fast. Or use something like this access point You plug it into an outlet, connect it to your wifi and plug your computer into this on the Ethernet port.
IT guy by profession, woodworker as a hobby. I ran ethernet through a conduit and installed a new access point in my shop. For a less extreme solution, you can buy a wifi repeater (example here https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=wifi+repeater&qid=1606926663&sr=8-3) You plug this into an outlet in your house as near to the building as possible. It basically receives the signal, and then boosts it back out. It works pretty well, but having that "man in the middle" will cause a slight inherent lag. If you're just wanting to watch youtube videos and check email from the shack, that won't be a problem though.
I dont think this will work. as far as I know, the cell phone wifi antenna does not contact the headphone jack. what you are suggesting does help with FM reception, but not wifi. You are better off boosting the wifi signal you are trying to use with an extender like this
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42?th=1
I can't speak to this model but something like this. It is supposed to repeat your wireless connection to the router so you can get more distance. If you get one, buy it from a place you can return it if it doesn't work
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42
If you’re putting it in a desktop, just get a Wi-Fi extender and run an Ethernet cable from the extender to the desktop. It’s how I have my OG Xbox on my network, but it would work on any computer because it basically bypasses any hardware or software requirements on the machine.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ or similar for each building.
plug a POE switch into the ethernet port, then you've got 100m range from the switch to your cameras.
> We have four Vicon NVRs that are laying around and can be used. They have the ViconNET software and I'm wondering if it would be best to install one NVR in each building and then wirelessly connect the NVRs?
haven't worked with vicon, but i haven't seen NVRs that actually link together.
you could just spin up a recorder at each building, to host its own set of cameras, and deal with the PITA of remoting into different recorders depending on what camera you needed to review.
Here's a cheap solution. I have one that I use for my work VOIP phone, works fine, just turn off broadcast of SSID after it's setup and it just acts like a little receiver with an ethernet port.
For a single device it's not too bad. Anyway, Why is your wifi adapter disabled? Why not just enable it again?
Yeah, I've been using a Lumus for quite awhile now, maybe a year and a half, and I've noticed the wifi is pretty flakey on it. I even returned my first one, hoping the 2nd one would be better, but it really wasn't.
The only thing that fixed it for me was moving my wifi AP closer to the camera, now it very rarely drops connection. It used to have to go through two walls, one of which was insulated, but now since I moved my AP into the garage so it no longer has to go through the insulated wall it's been much better.
So, my suggestion? Get a wifi AP/range extender. My mother-in-law has two Lumus's as well and one was having the same issue, but we got one of these and placed it halfway between the router and the cam and it's been much better. Even better is if you can hardwire it back to your router, but I realize that's not always an option.
It works and that's what counts!
IT guy tip here. Usb wifi adapters suck. Wifi repeaters suck. However, wifi repeaters make great bridges and are small enough to install near your pc.
To anyone with a similar issue, I suggest you get a wifi repeater with ethernet out. Set it up to connect to your wifi, then turn off the broadcast feature. Run ethernet from the repeater to your pc (or a switch).
From the PC's side it is a just connected to a wired LAN. Window's doesn't "know" it is on a wifi network. This works for anything with an ethernet port. I use this with my smart TV and get drastically better network performance than the built in wifi adapter.
Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_CYT94GP8C3AQ3VNTKGRZ
Buy one of the following and configure it. It is a wifi extender, so it will repeat your wifi network as well, but it also has an ethernet port. Once you configure it as a wifi extender according to instructions, the ethernet port will behave like you plugged something directly into your network and you can plug your miner into it through a standard network cable. The miner will think it is plugged into an Ethernet (it is), but you will really be passing it packets over the wifi bridge.
Buy something like the following. It is a wifi range extender, but it also has an ethernet port. When you configure it as a range extender, you can plug an ethernet device into it. That way, your Miner will be using an Ethernet connection and not be relying on its own wifi radio.
Might want to consider getting a couple of Wi-fi Extenders to bridge the gaps. The one I linked to also has an ethernet port and can be set up to pick up the wifi and send it over ethernet to a device.
> Also, unless I am mistaken or something has changed in the three years since I last worked retail an extender with a LAN output just isn't a thing,
Yes, it is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42
And the 2 kinds I have here also claim to be able to use the LAN connector to hook up a PC with ethernet to the WiFi network.
Maybe not enterprise grade, but I have one of these repeaters /(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ve2DFb3FB8GGZ) set up behind my entertainment center at home connecting to my wifi, then ethernet to a small switch where I've wired in my TV, ps4, etc. Set it not to broadcast its own network, just bridge. Was cheap, very easy to set up, and has been very reliable.
Would a WiFi extender work as well because I don’t have 100 bucks on me but I do have enough to afford a 20$ WiFi extender. The product also says it can be used as an Ethernet adapter do in the future when I have enough money I could add one.Iwill leave a link here to it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4MXtFbTW1A784
Could you bring a new computer or phone onto the network yourself, and connect up no questions asked? No extra log in page or anything?
If so, a repeater should work like this one (not a specific endorsement).
Performance on these tends to be not great but definitely better than a super weak signal.
I had WiFi problems with my switch and couldn't play Splatoon 2 undocked online. I got a WiFi extender and I have a much better connection now with no problems. Here is the wifi extender I bought.
TP-Link N300 WiFi Range Extender with External Antennas and Compact Design (TL-WA855RE) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JPl3BbQC4XQCC
>y, you may not want to invest that kind of money in someones property. Instead, you could buy a few range extenders and see if you are able to strategically place them to provide the quality signal on your second and third floors you are looking for.
I am renting, so a a few repeaters may be the best option. These are simply placed in an electrical outlet somewhere?
edit: Two of these should do?
Hey man would something like this work? https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-Extender-Ethernet-Supported-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504466818&sr=1-1&keywords=wifi+range+extender+ethernet I can't seem to find the AC1200 TP-Link access point on any canadian websites.
I have one and it's terrible. Pages take 10x longer to load when I'm right next to the extender and connected to it. Might be a router setting or something but I cannot for the life of me get it to work properly. It's this one
> Powerline adapters
Are those basically the same as a wifi extender with an ethernet port? I have one of those https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wi-Fi-Extender-Supported-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1485977703&sr=1-4&keywords=wifi+extender
There's nothing that will make your signal faster, but you can buy range extenders that work decently. I can't find the one my family uses, but this one is similar and has good reviews.
Many will, just check the feature list. The specific feature is typically named either "Expand an Existing Network" or "Repeater". But you can also get cheapo little extenders if you ONLY want that functionality, and don't care about ever plugging it into a cable modem in the future. Here's one for $20 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=psdc_3015439011_t1_B00L0YLRUW
If you don't get good signal in your kitchen, a WiFi repeater will only amplify a poor signal. The ideal solution would be to run ethernet to your kitchen, and use a normal router as an access point. Another option would be to use something like this and place it between your Airport and kitchen.
this is the way.
envisalink is ethernet, not wifi. but that can be solved easily with a wifi access point.
for example, https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/
I have mine connected for almost a year now with no issues. I do have it connected to a 2.5ghz only access point (Wi-Fi extender in the garage for other smart devices), so that might be the issue you are having. You could get a device like this (https://smile.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42) and you can create a new 2.5ghz only network that connects to your main network.
Have no idea about code, but I solved my router problems with a simple repeater:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42
Getting an internal card tends to always be better than having USB adapters. Depending on the age of the router, a new router can make the difference too. However, for a better signal, I suggest a WiFi Extender. Now this won't help with the ping, but what it does help with is getting you a better signal. You basically plug it into a power outlet somewhere between you and the router. After you set it up, it connects to the router and seamlessly extends the range of your router's wireless.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC1750-inteligente-enrutadores-inal%C3%A1mbricos/dp/B0195Y0A42/
This is an in-expesnive example. Depending on the age of your router you will have either a 2.5ghz band router or 5ghz. Most 5ghz support both connections, but if you buy a 2.5ghz extender like my example link, you only extend that.
Just get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/
They have an ethernet port on the bottom and you can use it to bridge/ connect to your WLAN.
I suppose the applicable model is actually WA855RE
From the listing
>Wi-Fi Coverage up to 800 Square feet
depending on OP's space, that may be on the too small side.
In the wireless world, every "hop" cuts your bandwidth in half.
Sure, This one is a newer model of the one I got.
Yes, something like this that connects to your internet:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42

Sorry, the comment got removed because I used a URL shortener. Here's what I said:

Gotcha. If that's the case, just a standalone repeater might do the trick for you.
This one is pretty cheap right now: https://smile.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=sr_1_3
You would need to get a USB wifi adapter for your desktop in this scenario. They are relatively cheap too: https://smile.amazon.com/Wireless-desktop-10-9-10-14-Archer-T2U/dp/B07P5PRK7J/ref=sr_1_3
Try buying a wifi extender that plugs into a power outlet and help the internet get to the garage.
For $20, these things are awesome!
Not sure about NAS with wifi capabilities but you could either get a wifi extender (something like https://www.amazon.com/-/es/TP-Link-AC1750-inteligente-enrutadores-inal%C3%A1mbricos/dp/B0195Y0A42/) or the same thing over PLC, which I have not used before, but might be faster than wifi...
Either way, you connect your nas to the adapter/extender with an ethernet cable and the nas does not know it will be using wifi or plc. Should work, not sure about stability or transfer speeds though.
Another idea is to buy a WiFi extender, like this one (not sure if it's good, just the most sold on Amazon). It boosts the signal of your WiFi.
I did! Ring Support never responded on here, but I gave the Amazon doorbell a bad review describing the situation and they responded pretty quickly and set me up with a call with one of their service advisers. Before the call, Amazon recommended the wifi extender to me below. I had already tested the internet connection a few times within the Ring app and it said the connection was fine, but a couple reviews on the wifi extender said it helped their Ring Doorbell work, so I bought it. I think maybe its because the extended network (same network name as our wifi, but has EXT at the end) has different firewall, but it works now! We also put the extender fairly close to our front door. Here is a link to the extender. It was on sale for only $15 and it looks like its still on sale: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195Y0A42/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In case the link doesn't work the product name is:
wifi extender with ethernet port
I saw your reply in a notification but it's not showing up on the thread, this is what I was talking about.
I use a $20 repeater and gave it a unique SSID so it is dedicated to one device. It works great if they don't mind switching network names in the dead spot.
What does your FiOS setup look like? If you have TV service you'll need a MOCA. You can grab one off of Amazon (I got the Motorola one). It might bright some of the online features that FiOS offers but I did it for years without issues.
But GWifi isn't just a range extender. It replaces everything - if you aren't network/tech savvy, I'd suggest looking at something like this:
https://smile.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/r
It's cheap and gets the job done.
To help me understand, when you say internet cable, do you mean Coaxial cable (kind tvs mostly use) or ethrnet. You mention splitting, so I'm thinking coaxial.
How many SSIDs (wifi names) are being broadcasted?
Depending on time, money and energy you want to commit you can:
Simple cheap: Setup a repeater. This basically just takes the existing weakish wifi ssid and broadcasters it in its area. So essentially your creating a chain. Heres the first Amazon hit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rOccEb70AQ0T0
Kinda simple: Get a mesh router setup. This will probably involve messing with your router config (bridge mode and/or removing NAT, ssid broadcast, etc) but there are plenty of how to guides you can follow. Many of the top players have stake in this field now so prices vary. I've used eero befor, liked it for its ease of use but not for its advanced use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WMLPSRL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.SccEbBHCYQVS
There are tons more options but I think the above will be your best bet.
I got this and hooked it up to an actual router via ethernet:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195Y0A42/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the cheapest one. Im sure you could get something more powerful if you're willing to spend the extra dough.
It says it's not rated for the distance I need, but that's horse shit. I'm about 300+ feet, through brush and forest, away from my parents 10 year old router and I can stream and game just fine. I've been playing Destiny 2 and Overwatch with up to 11mb/s download, and 10ms ping. This is from shitty satellite internet
Would plugging my existing router into one of these work? Then, I can put the normal wifi security on it
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-External-Antennas-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42
get a cheep ap like this https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Wi-Fi-Extender-Supported-TL-WA855RE/dp/B0195Y0A42/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1506731321&sr=8-6&keywords=wifi+ap
if you can wire it to the wall
No that is not the one I'm using. I have the N300
Get a wifi extender and put it about halfway in between the router and your room. If you really want an antenna, get a wifi adapter
I personally have this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0195Y0A42 and it does the job nicely. Should work in your situation too.
You can get a ~~wifi range extender.~~ Should help in the areas of your home with a weak wifi signal.
Then I would activate wifi calling which should help with the weak cell signal by allowing you to call through your home internet connection.
This would be called an access point or repeater.
You follow the instructions to configure it to the ssme wifi network and itll essentially extend the wifi network further out at your place. Then you connect it to your ps4 via ethernet
My brother just got this and it worked.
