Unless you know the speed exactly then it would be better off to exceed it on the stick so at least you know there's no bottleneck there. Also I transfer large collections of music ~25 gigs and each time I do I pull out the micro sd and put it into usb 3 reader where the card is the bottleneck even at 90 MB/s. Not to mention your future phone might be able to read/write much higher which future proofs it a little. It's a 10$ difference for a lot of advantages.
I usually get better results using a USB SD adapter to view the files on the computer. My personal experience with plugging the camera itself to the computer with the USB cable is hit or miss.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-TS-RDF5K-microSDHC-Reader-Black/dp/B009D79VH4
My newest dashcam even came with one in the box.
I've had one of these little $10 Transcend ones for like 5 years and it has been fast and reliable. I like that it has both an SD and microSD socket, because I've problems with microSD-SD adapters and it's nice to be able to ground-truth the microSD itself.
I think there are faster USB adapters available now, these do max out at about 100Mb/s.
You could maybe try getting one of the cables you linked and an usb cardreader like this, open it up and solder the cable to the terminals of the SD slot. I don't exactly know if this would work, maybe the reader is one way only. But that is what I'd try.
Don't use the cable - it's limited to USB 2 speeds. Use either the SD slot in your laptop (provided that's not also hooked into an internal USB 2 header) or use one of these.
IDK what you're talking about, I use FTP Client on 3DS and Filezilla on my Windows 10 laptop and it works fine. But really though, over Wifi is pretty slow unless you have really good Internet, I recommend this https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-microSDHC-Reader-TS-RDF5K-Black/dp/B009D79VH4 It's on sale by a lot right now, it works with normal SD and Micro SD, and the reviews are really good
Interesting. I've only ever had one SD card fail on me, and it was one of the low-end SanDisks they sell for way too much at BestBuy.
I would recommend a USB SD card reader, such as this one, if you're having that problem a lot. That way, you can gently insert the card into the reader first, then plug the reader into the PC.
I'm using this adapter when I issue that command.
Get one of these adapters and put your 2nd MicroSD in it and put the adapter in the RPi's USB port. Then type
ddrescue -f /dev/sda /dev/sdb
and you'll have an exact copy for your second RPi.
I know you're asking about an internal reader, but have you considered a USB3 card reader like this? I have one and it works quite well and has the advantage of being portable and useful with other systems.
I've got to say, the thing I miss most having made the move from laptop to desktop is a discreet SD card slot - I've got a nice sleek case with no front bays, which I've then made look a little silly by having one of these poke out the front.
Aucune idée, je crois pas que ça ait d'impact sur les débits, le top d'amazon a moins de 10€ doit faire l'affaire! ( Y'a même en rose pour aller avec tes ventilateurs néons)
That solution makes sense. So I would just buy something like this link, put my sd card inside, then connect directly to my diskstation, and then copy files via DS files program on my Samsung tablet?
Your PS4 will absolutely support the videos. You have to make sure they are on a FAT32 drive and make sure they are in a folder.
Also, this.
1.- $ 5.75 cheap USB to SD adaptors http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Information-Card-Reader-TS-RDF5K/dp/B009D79VH4?ie=UTF8&keywords=usb%20sd%20card%20reader&qid=1459348098&ref_=sr_1_1&s=pc&sr=1-1
2.- It has Chrome OS pre installed, but you can also install any GNU/Linux, FreeBSD or MS WOS
2 bis - I wish this same model (and many other chrome books) where shipped with pre installed GNU/Linux too, or at least as an OS option downloading some installer from their web.
Yea for one more euro might as well. Your HDD is fine as well.
As for that card reader. That's weird. Even my SD card reader gets warm, but too hot to touch? That's concerning. Since it's Kingston, I'm sure its ok but here's the one I have: Transcend 3.0 reader
And don't format after every use. That's overkill. Only format before using the card in your cam for the first time or if you have to switch the card between different cameras. You don't have to format very often.
I know this isn't really hacking related, but...
I have to backup all my current 3DS data which is still in my default 2GB SD. The thing is, I have no idea what kind of adapter works to connect it to a PC since pretty much everything you find online is for microSD, not the good ol' ones. Does anyone know any? I've found a couple where the product pic shows slots for both micro and regular SD (such as this) but I'd like to hear from you guys first since I'm a bit tight on money and don't wanna end up purchasing the wrong thing or a cheap knock-off.
Pretty sure you are right about it acting the same as a flash drive.
I did find an SDXC that should work as well. It has a SD slot and a microSD slot but you can only use one at a time. So that means both ports are using the same controller, given that microSD is electrically the same (just physically smaller). It's cheap and is a decently known brand (though this, like all card readers, will really be made by some 'random' factory in China/Taiwan/similar).
I haven't used one since the days of Windows XP, but my experiences with them haven't been favorable. Each card slot shows up in Windows Explorer as a drive and whenever I released or ejected the flash card so I could remove it, I'd have to reboot the system to get the card reader to recognize any card that I subsequently put into that slot.
I find USB card readers to be a lot more stable and useful. I use this Transcend and it's been terrific: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B009D79VH4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3UQ0YYC0EYI93&coliid=I3AEA5QDOB0QCF&psc=1
In order to do this you'll almost certainly need a Micro SD card reader for your computer if you don't have one. This is the one I personally use.
The transcend one specifically is awesome. USB 3.0 as well. Read speeds around 90MB/s and write of 30-50MB/s
This should be your best bet without giving you too much of a headache. Plug your sd card in and you're set to go.
Yeah, you basically picked two of hte shittier options off amazon. That said, what isn't working about them? Do they just not do anything?
Try this one:
Transcend is a good brand.
Great deal!
Another fantastic deal is the 200GB for $34.99. It's a good day to grab either.
And FYI, as soon as you get any microsd card, run it through h2testw to see if it's legit (if it's sold and shipped by amazon it most likely is the real deal), and then crystaldiskmark to test the speed. Make sure to use a usb 3.0 port and card reader.

8$ on amazon
Transcend USB 3.0 SDHC / SDXC / microSDHC / SDXC Card Reader, TS-RDF5K (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009D79VH4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mYtgCb6RM1RXQ
You need a USB adapter that supports 1 Bit mode. The transcend USB adapter, https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-TS-RDF5K-microSDHC-Reader-Black/dp/B009D79VH4
This will work. I use this for every console. No issues
I'm actually not even a photographer or have any sort of specialized job that has me requiring SD/microSD cards (so as far as I know, I don't really have any sort of converter like that lying around). Not even that much of a PC gamer either! I just figured I would buy the Best Buy Extreme Plus 128 micro since it's apparently extremely fast (and may have a higher resale value, too, than the Ultra Plus 256 micro that Best Buy also has).
Thanks for the suggestion! Also saw this Transcent on Amazon.ca too, priced quite a bit lower: https://www.amazon.ca/Transcend-Information-Card-Reader-TS-RDF5K/dp/B009D79VH4/
I used to have a mini SD to sd adapter, and the mini SD card always got stuck in the adapter.
At the beginning I used my teeth to get them out, and later did it with tweezers because it was much easier. In doing so, I damaged and broke the card.
Therefore, don't get it out with tweezers!
I would contact the seller first, since their sold product doesn't function properly, not letting go of the micro sd card again.
If you're stuck solving it on your own, I'd dismantle the reader to get the card out.
Personally, I've been using this cardreader for a few years now without issues:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Transcend-High-Speed-USB3-0-microSDHC-microSDXC/dp/B009D79VH4
(though it sometimes gets a little warm under heavy use)
This is what I used to test it. I didn't get through the install process because that PC can't run Windows 11, but it did boot to the installer.
I personally recommend this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-microSDHC-Reader-TS-RDF5K-Black/dp/B009D79VH4/?tag=19gh-20
It out performs most of the name brand ones I've used, at half the price. Bonus for being about as big as a usb stick.
Good Luck!
Never used time machine and only my sister has a Mac. I just use synology drive to handle that machine. They mostly just back up pictures of the kids. If your family is actively using the files and they want more storage than what is available on their local machines, then a local NAS will do the trick. Any of the cheaper NAS should work as well. The more expensive models only come in handy if they will be running plex, docker, surveillance station, etc. If it was me, maybe go with something within the middle of their line up, a DS218 or DS218play. As for the SD Card, I have one of these and it has served me well...
No but you can just buy a tiny USB SD card reader on Amazon for $8 or so - same thing.
You mean a card reader? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009D79VH4
I use this one. I have a few scattered around. They do the job nicely.
its a micro sd card with a transcend usb card reader. no switch but everything is stuck in read only.
https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-microSDHC-Reader-TS-RDF5K-Black/dp/B009D79VH4
i use this portable USB SD card reader
https://www.amazon.com/Transcend-microSDHC-Reader-TS-RDF5K-Black/dp/B009D79VH4/
way better. i dont need an SD card reader all the time and I always have one with me IF I ever needed one.
i use this one

High FPS gaming = i7-7700K, and fast ram, and a gpu above the GTX 1060. Since the 1070 is overpriced currently I went directly to a GTX 1080. In Germany the 1080 Ti is too expensive anyway, which makes this the right pick. The disks are as requested, and the case is a good one, also fits colour-wise (black).
I would not add the SD card reader as a requirement to the case, too uncommon by now. Rather get an USB model like https://www.amazon.de/Transcend-TS-RDF5K-Kartenlesegerät-MicroSDHC-microSDXC/dp/B009D79VH4/, it only costs 8€.
For a gaming PC wifi is really not the right choice. You should connect via cable, and if ethernet is not an option look at powerline adapters. But you can add a wifi card like https://www.amazon.de/Gigabyte-GC-WB867D-I-Netzwerkkarte-Braun/dp/B00HXCGKZC/ if wifi is really the only way to get this machine online.
The display remains. You should get a 144Hz display, and if you really want a second one that one could be a regular 1080p 60Hz display, you won't play on the two at the same time, right? A sound combination would be https://www.amazon.de/AOC-G2460PF-Reaktionszeit-Displayport-FreeSync/dp/B01BV1XBEI/ + https://www.amazon.de/dp/B015510R4M/
I have been using this for over a year. It works.
Thanks mate! That's not really what I was looking for, but the suggestions on the link you sent me led me to this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009D79VH4/ref=psdc_516872_t2_B00OJ5WBUE
which is perfect!
You can get this usb sd card reader from amazon for $6. It works pretty well.
I wouldn't bother getting a cable. Get something like this.
So do you think I should get something like this?
This one's $7 with over 4,000 reviews.
Both read full-size SD cards and microSD cards and are USB3.0/USB2.0 backwards compatible.
Okay, so that's good to know. I used to work with huge files on SD cards - a lot.
I know that sometimes a shitty card reader (like this) will also fall asleep during the transfer. It's really maddening when it won't make it thru a single file without going to sleep.
If you're using a similar reader, get a better one. Like this. I have one of these, and it totally rocks.
If it's a reader in your PC, I don't know how to help you.
Be patient dude.
OOh, I think I can help with that! I had the same issue (described above in my post).
MAKE SURE you're using the included male-to-female usb cable between your EasyCap Video Grabber and your pi. I was just sticking the video grabber into my Pi's USB port and that was one of my issues (i.e., it wasn't detecting my grabber until I used the cable).
Also make sure that your setup is wired correctly. These should give you a good idea (better than the terrible guides on Lightberry's site, lol) https://lightberry.eu/shop/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/uhd-poprawka21.jpg, https://lightberry.eu/shop/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/lightberry-HD-4m.png . . . plug the LED's into the the LED converter, plug the converter into you Pi, plug your Pi into the EasyCap video grabber (using the cable mentioned above), plug the EasyCap into the HDMI-to-RCA converter (the biggest one in the kit), plug that into one of the HDMI splitter's outputs, run the included HDMI cable from the other HDMI's outputs to your TV, and lastly run an HDMI cable from your source to the HDMI splitter's input. Boom, done! :)
Have you tried one of our images on their site? lightberry.eu/#download ... I downloaded the "OpenELEC 6.0.0 for RPi2" because my pi is the RPi2. Download the one you think matches your Pi the best. Next, I used this guide, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJP7JNnqFEM, to install it on my SD card. Specifically all I used were the first 5 minutes of the video when he talks about using ApplePi-Baker (because I have a mac) to install the image of their version of OpenELEC onto my SD card. If you have Windows, he talks about how to install it on windows in the video. If you don't have any way to read / install a SD card, there's cheap SD card readers on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Information-Card-Reader-TS-RDF5K/dp/B009D79VH4/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1454598246&sr=1-5&keywords=sd+card+reader
Once you've installed it on sd card, plug it into your Pi and your system should boot up with OpenELEC. Find the "Programs" tab, and there should be a program installed called "Hyperion config generator". It's a really dumbed down version of Hyperion, but the important part is that it works! It took me about an hour of playing around with it to get it to match my TV's pixel locations, and then about another hour of playing around with the gamma, settings, etc. before I was totally happy with it. I've tried to SSH into my Pi and install a custom hyperion config file (via this tutorial https://lightberry.eu/support/how-to-upload-hyperion-conf-json-to-openelec/) . . . . but it just doesn't seem to want to work. I guess I could keep trying, but just using the config generator I mentioned I was able to get about 95% of what I wanted, which is good enough for me.
I still have problems when using my computer as a source, for example if I fullscreen a VLC movie, the LED's turn off, or some games I'm playing have a weird lag, but my xbox as a source is fantastic and is very visually impressive.
There's a lot to figure out so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. This is a HARD project, and what makes it even harder is that the guides online are incomplete, refer to the older version of lightberry (e.g., when you had to plug into the GPIO pins on your Pi, hahah no thanks), or they are hard to follow. Don't be afraid to ask if you have any other questions. Thanks! :)
Tested, doesn't work with mine. Consumes too much power, same error on my iPad 4.
I'll cosign on the card formatting thing. I picked up this usb 3.0 compatible card reader and it's been very handy to have for transferring TWRP and Titanium Backups between my SD card and PC. The one downside is that this is a wide card, so it effectively blocks other USB ports. You'd have to pair it with a USB 3.0 extension cable if that is a concern of yours based on your USB port arrangement, or pick up a card reader like this one (which I can't comment on since I don't own, so YMMV).
That's really weird. I haven't heard of a problem quite like that. If you have access to a PC with a microSD card reader, I would try and back up your data, reformat with the SD Card Formatter from the SD Association, restore your data, and see if that helps. If you don't have any way to read microSD cards on your PC, you might consider something cheap like this since it will make it a lot easier to deal with these kinds of problems in the future.
Here's the build its self. You'll save some money buying the CPU at microcenter.

Also, welcome about the glorious pc masterrace! Things are glorious on this side. Also, if you're a avid Halo player like me (yes, I'm daily on the Xbox one) check out /r/haloonline ! Halo on the PC!
I've use this little guy for the last 6 months or so and been really happy.

>Could I use a micro sd card with one of these:
<strong>link1</strong>
>plugged into the NUC, and install Ubuntu on the micro sd card?
Yes, Ubuntu is very flexible with the location of your install as long as it remains plugged in while the device is on.
>Also, could I buy an SSD (but not an SSD meant for the NUC), one of these: <strong>link2</strong>
Yes, but you could also put that SSD in some models of NUC like <strong>this model</strong>.
>and plug it into the NUC with one of these cables: <strong>link3</strong>
>And then install Ubuntu on that?
yes, but you could have better success with an external enclosure that stores the whole drive rather than that model that is meant for hotswapping. Like <strong>this</strong>.
