I'm interested in details. I feel like I need new wheels they are working but are beat up and require a lot of maintenance. I had not considered lacing the hubs on my own but that sort of thing is right up my alley.
I know I need to do the chain. I bought a new one already, so that's on deck.
I was looking at this bb adapter on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VT550K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_tEsDFb8188KAR
But I'm not sure what actual bottom bracket I need from there or a good three piece assembly that goes with it.
To be clear I can figure out what's compatible but I don't know what I s a good fit stylewise and or is still fairly cost effective. I'd like to keep the sameish appearance but get lighter.
I'm leaning towards leaving the paint as is. My ultimate goal is for it to be very nice to ride but not have spent so much money on it that I'm afraid to leave it out side the library unlocked. I also feel like the crusty look gives it a sleeper vibe.
So any way don't be afraid to get as detailed as you want.
The only bb type I'm aware of that you can do this with is an American/US type BB - wherein BB cups are pressed in, which house sealed bearings.
If the diameter of your BB shell is 51mm then you can do this with something like:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Truvativ-Bottom-Bracket-American-Euro-Adaptor/dp/B000VT550K
yes, u used one of thesee to convert the bottom bracket to euro then used a square taper bb. The cranks are origin 8 track ss crankset in gold, pretty stiff for 80 dollars imo.
I'd personally steer clear of spending money on it. It has an Ashtabula bottom bracket and crank set. So if you wanted to change to a decent crank and change the spindle length as to acquire the correct chain line you'd have to get a bottom bracket adaptor.

EDIT: plus, the whole bike in it self is of Lo quality and I don't feel you'd get much out of it. I'm all for conversation and trying to build a cheap beater. But, I can't recommend using this bike.
After you drill out a core sample, you can plug it with this: https://www.amazon.com/Truvativ-00-6415-027-000-American-To-Euro-Bmx-Adapter/dp/B000VT550K/
Then you have no excuses! :)
The internal diameter is ≈48mm, the width from hole to hole is 60mm (if it matters). Here is also a pic of the bike in its original state: https://photos.app.goo.gl/EWe9cma28EeTesBC8 I don't know the frame model but it's a 30yo crescent bike that has the serial: WBKE765038. If you know the frame model from that info then I'd love to know.
The crankset model I'm going for is a 48t Lasco original crankset (LSK - 1015) and this is the information I could find: Length :170MM BCD 130MM Axel Fixing Bolt CRO-MO Chainline 45MM
I also have a Shimano BB-UN26 crank bearing (68, BC1.37x24) (L←LL113→R) that I plan on using.
.... The adaptor I bought and currently have is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Truvativ-00-6415-027-000-American-To-Euro-Bmx-Adapter/dp/B000VT550K. I saw some dude using it on a similar bike to mine and I thought it'd work but yeah, clearly it didn't hahah.
Hmm you are right, that picture does show a 1 piece crankset, though this one on the Fuji site shows a 3 piece: http://www.fujibikes.com/usa/bikes/cruiser-comfort/beach-cruiser/cape-may
If you have a one piece, you can use this adapter to convert to three piece https://www.amazon.com/Truvativ-00-6415-027-000-American-To-Euro-Bmx-Adapter/dp/B000VT550K
Most chain tensioners are not designed for wide ranging chain slack, but a rear derailleur is designed for that. I would recommend using one even if you don't run gears on the back
if the chain is getting slack every two weeks then maybe the wheel is moving in the dropout? it shouldn't stretch that much that fast
I did it with my 1976 Schwinn Varsity Bicentennial. You need one of these bottom bracket adapters. It creaked initially but I took it apart and slapped a fuck-ton of polylube on it. That solved it.
These things often work a little better: http://www.amazon.com/Truvativ-00-6415-027-000-American-To-Euro-Bmx-Adapter/dp/B000VT550K
Allows you to run whatever BB you choose and change the spindle length to suit the cranks.
