It's called a Tub Shroom. It works very well. Though the hair is rather gross after collecting other dirt and soap and stuff, I would never clean it off with my bare fingers. Use a tissue for god's sake!
This guy was worth every penny. It just doesn't work well if you take a lot of baths. Showers only and it's amazing.
Edit: Linked the proper tub product and not the sink thanks to /u/2muchCoding
The one you linked is for sinks whereas this one is for tubs. Either way, +1 for those things as someone with mid back length curly hair!
A+ for coming up with a good solution.
For anyone else that is looking to catch hair before it hits your pipes, I would recommend the TubShroom. I found it cheap in a Marshalls a few months ago, and it has been great for catching hair in a bathroom used by four people with long hair. I do have to clean it daily to keep the flow rate high (four people produce a lot of hair), but that just tells me that it's doing a good job catching the hair.
Bingo. If OP has to use it every month it means there’s a major clog and drano is doing nothing more than eating a tiny hole through it to clear it up briefly. There are also some plumbers that believe extensive drano use can damage your pipes long term.
Get a plumber out that can clear it out completely. And get yourself a drain catch like the tub shroom.
This has great reviews and will cost you $3.25 each...

I don't have any sort of affiliation with the company or Amazon. It just seemed like an easy solution to the drain issue.
I see everyone has suggested a drain snake. If you pull out hair (even short hair) consider getting one of these tub shrooms. My SIL told me to get one after they had to snake their drain because it was so slow.
Am hairy dude (not Sasquatch level, but mosquito repellent level because mosquitoes can't get through the hair to bite my legs kinda level) - invested in a Tub Shroom. It's a lifesaver.
I have something similar to this and it is impressive how much hair it catches and keeps from going down the drain.

They also sell ones that replace the regular shower drain plate in showers. All you do is pull out the center, throw the hair away and drop it back in.
Get a hair mushroom to cover the train. But agree. I have curly hair. Wash day is very messy. I remember using a drain snake. Gross. Hair is strangely gross when it's not attached to you anymore.
I use a tub shroom. Game changer. We live in a house with old plumbing too and it’s never been clogged. I never not clogged my drain in my previous homes. Tub Shroom
If you only use the tub as a shower get one of the Tubshroom inserts. It catches all hair and is easy in/out. My drain hasn’t clogged since I installed it.
Hosting pro tip: Get a fucking tubshroom. I promote this product all the time and stand by it being the BEST 8-15 dollar expense you can ever spend on your Airbnb.

We went from having to snake our tub drains on each floor once/twice a year to having to do it once every year or two.
YOu have to educate your guests that it isn't to be removed though.
I'm Iranian and also removed the metal cover but it was a temporary fix before I ran into other issues. Went on Amazon and picked this up and it's honestly been the best $13 I ever spent. Ha ha I actually kind of love this question because it made me wonder — at what point does hair become long enough it may clog the drain?
If I shave my legs after letting them “grow out” for a month or so over the winter, no issues at all. But leg hair has a finite length.
However, I have long, curly head hair that I brush in the shower and it definitely clogs the drain. This even happened when I had shorter hair that was just above shoulder-length, it just took a bit longer.
So like... what would the critical hair length be where it wouldn’t clog the drain eventually with my normal showering habits? 6”? Who knows.
Btw, if you are struggling with hair clogging your drain, get yourself a TubShroom. It has been literally life-changing. I’m not having to snake gross clumps of hair out of my drain anymore.
Yes! It takes a while but I think that the more you do it the faster you get. Just make sure to have plenty of conditioner for slip! I also use a tubshroom. I bought it on Amazon for around $11. It's been a lifesaver, I would spring for the stainless steel one though, the one I have has mildew on it and if I can't clean it I've already decided to get a new one.
I've done this as long as I can remember, my husband makes fun of me about it. Also, have you tried a tub shroom? It catches all the hair before it escapes down the drain :)
TubShroom. 13 dollars saves you the trouble of renting a hazmat suit once a month to wrestle the ungodly Frankenstein's monster-esque amalgamation of soap scum, bodily secretions, and hair. Life changing, truly.
As a guy with long hair and lived with 2 girls we constantly had our drains clog, I looked around amazon and found this. It works so fucking well, the amount of hair it picks up is ridiculous, of course with the amount of hair in the house we had to clean it up every few days which is really easy to do.
I agree with getting the Zip It, and I also recommend the TubShroom.
I take hair out of it a couple times when I shower. It kicks ass at trapping hair, it's cheap, and it's super quick to pop out/clean/pop in.
Y'all need a Tubshroom!

There is this little mushroom hair catcher I buy on amazon and it saves you the trouble of having to snake your drain! I love it. Since getting it my drain never gets clogged. However, I do know it doesn't work for every drain.

Depending on the drain you can get something like this. You will still have to clean it out but it will make it a lot easier.
Get a TubShroom, which is a strainer that catches hair and keeps it from clogging the drain.
Do you have anything that catches the hair? If not I can recommend this, having one myself: https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS

Went from snaking 4x a year to snaking once every year or two.
Oh damn, I’m taking your advice and just ordered one. Here’s a working link too.
TUBSHROOM, LIFECHANGER!

My girlfriend and I have separate showers in our house, and hers would clog every two weeks until I got her a TubShroom. Now it never does.
I highly suggest getting a tubshroom I haven't had a problems since
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
I second the tub shroom. I have waist length hair and a 60 year old house with original cast iron pipes. Pipes rust from the inside out, so old pipe interiors are like velcro and clog unreasonably fast long before they quit holding water. We were having to pull out the snake once a month... haven't pulled it out in two years since we got one.
This hair catcher (tub shroom) has been the best one I've ever found, and I feel like I've used every possible one lol. Highly recommend it if you have a compatible drain. We also just do draino maintenance once a month or so.

Get yourself a Tub Shroom and also she should clean it. I'm a man, and the only person in my house of 4 with long hair. I know I should clean it out. This thing makes a world of difference.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
Yeah, that's fucking gross. Hair traps are bae. Especially this one.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
I'm a huge fan if this one, it sits in the drain so nothing goes under it
Order a tubshroom.
I have one of these. Super easy to remove and clean, relatively cheap too.

I have a tubshroom. It has lasted like 2 years.
