If we start nitpicking the live-action remakes, we'll be here all day. Perhaps the greatest tragedy is they really had an opportunity to grow the story and character beyond the almost 'default' of the Disney classics and give them a new polish, and they completely dropped the ball - either with scene for scene rehashes, completely missing the point of the original, and losing nuances and detail while extending movies and somehow delivering so much less. They could've been something, in some cases, a fresh take was practically gift-wrapped, and they were doa.

Nostalgia Critic noted that 'classic disney' had simplified 'perfect' protagonists which allowed the villains to go all out - simplified evil, and truly steal the spotlight. In more modern times, things have gotten swapped, giving protagonists more complicated back stories and motivations, which takes a lot of the punch from the villains. Especially since everything seems to *need* a 'twist' these days...
It's just kinda jaw-dropping when fan works/theories/memes drop better concepts than the so-called professionals.
For a great example of what these remakes could have/should have been, look no further than the "Twisted Tales" book series, asking "What if" - Truthfully I haven't read any yet, but I have purchased a handful based on their premises alone.
Creating entirely original content and getting butts in seats is tough. Using an established property does half of their work for them. So what if they completely ignore or misrepresent the source material so that its character in name only and just drives you to hate it and the original by association? They already got your money. -_-
I hope you and your loved ones are doing well - I am thoroughly enjoying having this chat with you.

Digimon.. gosh, where to begin... It's my all-time favorite - I have seen Seasons 1-5, each season is about 52 eps or so. They generally get started a bit slow, but before you know it, these characters are your best friends.
To the uneducated observer, Digimon might appear to be a knockoff of Pokemon, but the reality couldn't be further.
They go through learning self-doubt, one believing their parents never loved them, thus they are not capable of love, another learning their parents are keeping the fact that they are adopted a secret, finding one's purpose in life, abusive parents, grief, responsibility to a sibling, guilt, identity, forgiveness, accepting your past, survival, depression,...
Season 3 (Digimon Tamers) is perhaps the darkest, angstiest season - it's perhaps my least favorite for this reason, but not by much. There's still a ton of amazing things in it. Many fan-favorite characters go through a ton of psychological trauma and are in desperate need of cinema therapy. Season 3 also has many references to Evangelion, popular anime, if you are familiar with that, which could explain a lot of its angst.
Unlike Pokemon, where monsters battle for sport and evolve after enough victories and experience points, in Digimon, which is battling to protect and survive, each of the chosen children gets one digimon and one digimon only, no matter what, and they evolve when the personality character of the child 'evolves' and grows into stronger humans. Before they can save the digital world and stop the monsters that threaten it, these children have to slay their own personal demons.
