That’s why I went for nerf bars. They still affect clearance a bit but they are a good step. No substitution for sliders, obviously. I’d talk them off for any serious trails. I only paid $289 for them, though. Looks like they got a lot more expensive.
These? If so I really like them, leaning toward them.
I got the (Tygers)[ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZT0R19/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_F23CZTZ7JV3QS6S0XKYW] nice and sturdy, I mostly got them to protect my doors from dings. I've got little kids though and without these I'd be lifting them in all the time.
i had these on my 18 and just ordered them for my 20. Tried others… IMO these are the best for the tundra. They are very low profile, but stick out far enough to be useful as a step. Also, i turned into a massive rock (big enough to lift that side of the truck and bring me to a stop from about 15 mph), and no damage to the truck. They had a dent and scrape on the bottom side. A couple quick coats of bedliner spray paint and they were good to go.

Are you referring to the running boards that come stock on the Limited? Forgive me if I sound like I'm talking down as it's not my intention but you have 3 basic types of products. Rock Sliders, Nerf Brars (aka tube steps), and running boards. Rock sliders are heavy steel and mount to the frame to support the weight of the vehicle if it slides against boulders. Nerf and running boards attach to the body and will not hold the weight of the vehicle in these situations but are much better for steps and offer some body protection against poles, curbs, car doors, etc.
I have "Nerf bars" on my TRD pro because they make better steps and I don't intend to go rock crawling on advanced trails. If I do, I'll take them off and replace with rock sliders.
I did not install rock sliders because they are very heavy because they are solid, I'd need to powder coat them myself, and the ones I saw required some drilling into the frame. The nerf bar / tube steps I got bolt on to factory bolts and took maybe 15 minutes. They are significantly lighter and came painted. Also the main purpose was to give my wife and kid a step because the TRD Pro is much taller than my 2008 limited, so they had trouble getting in. Rock sliders don't have much of a step to them but the ones I got have a nice step.
This is a basic breakdown of the different types:

This is what I got for my TRD Pro:

But i'm a little worried that the paint may chip off and they will rust so I'm keeping an eye on them. I didn't see the reviews that complained about that until after I had installed them.
Here is what my ride looks like with them https://i.imgur.com/1xRozZZ.jpg
Those aren’t sliders. They definitely look like the Tyger Steps
Nope, just beefy steps. Bolt to the body, not to the frame.
