Check if your campsite allows fire inside barbecues or fire bowls/pits. Often they don't mind as long as you don't scorch the grass.
If allolwed and you want to sacrifice 10 to 12 ounces in packing weight you could bring a small foldable fire pit with you. These make tiny fires ,about 10-12 inches in diameter, that are more used for cooking and to make thing a bit cozy. Not for actual warmth.
If that's not an option, make sure you're tent is comfortable enough to be in for a couple of hours in the evening.
Problem is bugs. A campfire produces smoke that keeps the bugs at bay. But if you put on a lantern without smoke you'll often be overwhelmed by bugs in the summer months. Even as much as the backlight of an eReader attracts way too many buggers. Unless you keep the light on in a tent with bug net.
Here's a cheap one for backpacking: UCO Grilliput Compact Firebowl, 11-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000I7NWXC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_Ouw1wbCPPHNE7
Snow peak makes a really fancy one that's more suited to drive up camps (or even home use)
This one has a battery powered fan to make the fire really hot and efficient: http://www.zzstove.com/eagle.html
