6 inches of 24g wire is about $100 on amazon for "99.9%" pure platinum. They have other gauges as well, 6" of 28g is $35. I don't know enough about platinum to have any idea how trustworthy the listing is, though..
I wonder if you could easily sell/recycle the trimmed leads to get some money back too.
