Alot more stable than wifi thats for sure, only thing you have to make sure is that you dont undock your switch mid battle or else you will probably have a disconnect (bc its switching back to wifi).
Go with the Ugreen 3.0 lan adapter, same chipset as the official licenced one but not bottlenecked and allot cheaper
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Gigabit-Network-Ethernet-1000Mbps/dp/B00MYTSN18
Everyone: Complaining about how Ethernet should have been in the base version
Me: shrugs and grabs an adapter for $14.
I get it, it's dumb, but it's literally just $14. Considering how much cheaper Nintendo Online is to alternatives, it's fine. Not even saying it like it's a good thing, I'm just plum neutral on it because it's such a minor thing that it doesn't register on my radar.
Ugreen usb 3.0 lan adapter. They are 15 bucks/euros and can be bought from amazon. Worked since launch like a charm.
Dont go with any usb 2.0 lan adpaters, 99% are 100mbit only and not gigabit.
All kinds of other wireless signals can cause unstable connections, especially with the poor implemented WiFi cabilities of the console. When nearby cars using Blutooth drive by, it always causes extreme Ping peaks during my Rocket League sessions. Same happens when my girlfriend uses a Blutooth speaker, it totally messes up the Switch's WiFi. And don't get me started with Microwaves, those are the worst!
Get yourself an usb lan adapter to connect your Switch with the Router. It's a much more stable experience. UGREEN was the company I bought my lan adapter from, it works beautifully and is much cheaper than the Nintendo licenced one (even supports USB 3.0). Got it from Amazon.
EDIT: Even with lan you will experience lag, but as long as your Router works fine, you shouldn't experience any disconnects and an overall more stable online experience. Keep in mind that connection errors are only on your end when you lose the Match after the disconnect. Some of my enemies just d/c and this message then shows up, even though I get the win and points, since they gave up.
Getting off of WiFi is the best thing you can do to improve lag-free Zoom calls. I have experimented with both, on various wired and wireless connections and there is consistently more lag in wireless connections. WiFi is great for watching Youtube or Netflix or other basic internet uses, but it's not so good for real-time video conferencing.
Even if you have a super fast internet connection, WiFi can and will introduce lag into the connection. I have a relatively slow internet connection and WiFi is decent on Zoom (but regularly lags), but ethernet is great and almost always lag-free.
If your computer has no ethernet port, you can use one of these dongles to add one.
The next best thing is to always reboot your machine before an important Zoom meeting. Don't fire up a browser that restores 150 tabs. If you need to access your gmail to get to the zoom link, open it in a browser you don't normally use. Make sure the Zoom client is up to date, too.
If you have the ability to, get a LAN adapter. They're only like $15 on Amazon. Also, try changing your MTU back to the default (1400). It could be that since online in Smash is done through a peer-to-peer connection, modifying your MTU could be the reason why you are not seeing lag but your opponent is. That being said, I'm not a network engineer.
Did anybody find out upgrading from unamanged simple switch to L3 advanced switch with no fancy qos, flow control set, cut your speedtest on Nintendo Switch in half?
I used to get 80mbps when directly connected to unmanaged switch or router. Now I get average 35mb after connecting it to Ubiquiti switch, I don't have qos, flow control or STP enabled on the port to which I connected NS. I already know getting close to 1gb wired is impractical due to hardware design.
I use UGreen usb3 gigabit network adapter.
There is a pair of specific chipsets they need to be based on, ASIX AX88179; being the most important.
But there are TONS that work with the system. You can browse amazon and they usually have "switch" in the title to notify you that they do work.
UGREEN, Amazon basics and Pluggable are the three big ones that get mentioned a lot.
i got just a normal ass adapter for like 10 bucks on amazon on sale it looks to be about 13 now tho https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_4?crid=11GS0H48MPC1T&keywords=switch+ethernet+adapter&qid=1562782966&s=electronics&sprefix=switch+eth%2Celectronics%2C140&sr=1-4
This is the one I use on my cabs. They work pretty well. You just have to plug it into the USB port on the back and plug in an ethernet cable. It will automatically see that your machine is using a wired connection
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
The Nintendo Switch is a very particular device. Only certain Ethernet adapters work on it.
Bright side, your dock isn't broken and all the USBs work just fine.
Not so bright side, you're out some cash for that adapter and you'll have to get another one. :/
If you can find one decently cheap, I'd recommend a Nintendo licensed adapter, but I bought one from (Ugreen on Amazon) [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_7QDFW3AA0S2FYHDXM49X] and it's worked really well and it's pretty cheap.
I tried this one and it didn't work. Do you have a U7G?
UGREEN USB Ethernet Adapter USB 3.0 to 10 100 1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter Ethernet Compatible with Nintendo Switch MacBook Surface Pro Laptop PC Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_W1B16QZ6QDTPHKTQT6F0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I don't want to downplay the idea that shelling out for accessories just to have an acceptable connection is ridiculous. Nintendo saw the last 2 generations of competitors' consoles with built-in ethernet, and said "nah fuck that," so you're right to be annoyed.
However, are you looking at 3rd party accessories or just Nintendo licensed accessories? Cuz this guy is about 1/3 the price of Nintendo's ethernet adapter.
Alternatively, does your router have a 5-GHz band that you can connect to instead of 2.4-GHz? If you're absolutely stuck using wifi, a 5-GHz band can at least help a little bit.
That's... not how that works for the Wii.
It only supports one chipset. It's the ASIX AX88772.
The most popular, and still available, adapter that has this chipset is the UGreen 10/100 USB 2.0 adapter. I personally have a few of those, one for my Wii and WiiU as well as some spares, and they all work great.
FYI, Ethernet dongles for the switch are a lot closer to $10. This is the one I use and it's worked perfectly for almost 3 years now.
Edit: and if you play Smash online, please for the love of God get an Ethernet adapter. The Switch's WiFi is notoriously terrible even with a good network, mine is basically touching my router and the Ethernet adapter still made a difference.
The one you linked would not work...the Switch dock only has USB-A ports.
I have this one and it works: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For any USB->Ethernet adapter to work on the switch, you need the adapter to have the AX88179 chip, which the one I linked does
I got the ugreen one here, though it says say there's a newer one. Works great for me, though I'm not doing anything crazy on it like coop or online matches with other players recently. When I did with Ultimate Alliance, I had no issues.
Do you know the model number of the ethernet chip in your computer? Alternatively the make and model of the computer. The short answer if I had to guess I'd guess that particular card or chip is not supported or not yet supported, and an easy fix is a USB Ethernet adapter which costs around $12 to $13.
Thank you so much! Would it be the same if I buy this https://www.amazon.com/Adaptador-Ethernet-adaptador-convertidor-compatible/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=ugreen+ethernet+adapter&qid=1604254579&sprefix=ugreen+ether&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVk... instead of the USB hub?
I know you said you'd rather not order from Amazon but I can 100% vouch for this one as it has worked without issue for several months now.
Otherwise @Groovy_Dad's link looks perfectly fine as well!
yeah depending howmuch cable you need.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I have for reference, I'm sure you can find the same thing on .com ect. Cheaper ones as well if you look around.
Okay cool thanks!
I bought this one on Amazon, the UGreen one, so hopefully it will work.
UGREEN USB Ethernet Adapter USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet RJ 45 Lan Network Adapter Converter 10 100 1000Mbps Ethernet for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Mac OS, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OjxcEbBFTRFA0
Your PS4 and PC should be connected by Ethernet. Even if your PC is a laptop, you should have an Ethernet connection available for it where you use it the most. You can even connect your Switch's dock with Ethernet via an adapter.
While they may work fine on Wi-Fi, keep in mind that Wi-Fi is a shared connection while each Ethernet connection is dedicated. The fewer things you have on Wi-Fi, the faster it'll be for the things that need it. Think of Wi-Fi as a single-lane street that only one car can drive on at a time. The more buildings are on it, the longer it'll take a car to reach each one. Ethernet is like a two-lane road that any number of cars can use at the same time.
Here is my measured data from Switch OS 6.2.
Connection | Download Speed | Upload Speed | Note |
---|---|---|---|
Google Fiber | 960 Mbps | 982 Mbps | ISP Speed leaving/entering ISP’s network, measured with PC |
802.11ac 2.4ghz | 32.3 Mbps | 13.2 Mbps | with Switch, Med/Low Interference |
802.11ac 5.0ghz | 58.1 Mbps | 22.1 Mbps | with Switch, Low Interference |
Ethernet | 152.3 Mbps | 26.5 Mbps | with Switch, UGreen USB 3.0 Gigabit LAN |
Note: I use an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter POE for router and a Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC-LR for WiFi.
I use this UGreen Adapter
My Switch is a Gen 1 launch switch. I am unaware of any WiFi chip changes on later models, but who knows.
Try this LAN adapter, it has the same chipset than the nintendo one: Big Joe 0010659 Foam Filled Bean... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18
Stick to wired connection, connect your switch straight to the modem if possible (maybe the router/hub could be the problem... maybe buying a diff router?).
Hope someone can help. I've been using the Ugreen ethernet adapter since August of last year and it used to work just fine until a few months ago. For whatever reason, every time I try to connect to the internet it gives me the error code 2110-2963 and says "unable to obtain IP address."
I can connect to my router's 5G network just fine, but I really wanna start using the ethernet adapter again since Smash Bros is out.
Any idea what I can do to solve this?
Works with the Switch and for some reason even though the Switch's USB 3.0 is technically enabled the 3.0 USB to Ethernet give a better connection.
The interior USB port is the usb 3.0 port and it does give you access to gigabit internet if you're internet is high speed. You can tell if it's usb 3.0 if inside the port you 9 metal pins instead of just 4. Also the interior plastic is typically blue :)
There are lots of good USB 3 Ethernet adapter on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1541166648&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=usb+3.0+ethernet&psc=1
I bought this Ugreen Lan adapter earlier this week off of amazon. I can't find anywhere where it mentions the specific chipset it uses. Does anyone know if this one will work fine or am I better off getting another adapter with that chipset?
EDIT: Found that yes it does have the same chipset. That being said I've noticed my download/upload speed is much slower than my 5G wifi. Not too happy about that, is it still worth using for packet loss and latency purposes?
A good amount of people seem to go for the UGREEN USB 3.0 one. It works well with Switch, and when Nintendo finally activates the 3.0 capabilities on the dock's port, it'll be even more responsive.
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
I only mean to say that one end of the cable is physically plugged into the windows PC running Simulink real-time and the other end is plugged into the linux machine. I am unsure about any sort of protocol that would be used to communicate data through this connection.
That said, it looks like we're going to try something like this and see if it lets us use the better documented approach of communicating over an ethernet connection.
It seems like we're going to try one of these usb-to-ethernet port connectors and see if it makes it a bit easier.
I would. I've been using the ugreen usb 3.0 to rj45 adapter since launch with no issues.
The switch getting warm (it won't get hot) is normal and nothing to worry about.
pokken tournament dx. despite the age of the game (it was originally on wii u), it still has many people playing the online component. it usually doesn't take very long to find opponents.
edit to add + spelling, etc.:
if you don't already have one, i suggest getting an ethernet adapter. it helps with latency/lag in online play. here's one that works for the switch and is relatively inexpensive.
In my experience for docked Splatoon 2 play you can’t beat a cheap LAN adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_7WYKAbQV8QRSK. Set it and forget it.
Undocked wireless is a little trickier. Are you using 5GHz or 2.4GHz? In my experience the Switch runs a little more reliably on 5GHz for me, but I’ve only tested two Switches (not a lot). I’ve found having access to both signals is nice to test which runs better in different situations. A WiFi range extender could also help, I saw someone link one in another comment. Anyway, that’s my two cents. I’m no expert but I hope that helps!
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That's the one I got, and the connection test gave me a 36mbps down & 5 up. Immediately put it to the test with Spla2n and the difference from my shitty wifi was like night and day.
I use this adapter for Ethernet. Haven't used it too much on my Win but I've also used it on other devices lacking Ethernet like other laptops and my Switch. It works great and seems to be made to last.
If you want though, there are a lot of USB C hubs available. I don't have a recommendation for one but you should be able to find a high quality hub that contains a few extra USB ports, a pass through for charging, an Ethernet port, and maybe even an extra micro USB slot. It won't be that much bigger than just a regular Ethernet adapter and it would not only free up the USB A port, but provide one or two more.
My switch is connected to my network with a usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter. I bought and downloaded mario+rabbids earlier today and it only took a few minutes on my connection (100mbps).
I'd get one of those if at all possible.
Ive been using a ugreen lan adapter since launch. Never had any kind of trouble in mario kart or splatoon. I live in europe but the thing is also avalible in the US. Here is a direct link to the amazon page(amazon UK is also selling it)
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
You need one of these https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502473290&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=ethernet+adapter&psc=1 and an ethernet cable. You connect the adapter to one of the usb ports on the dock, then you go to the internet settings on the switch and choose the "wired" connection" option.
It might seem ridiculous, but ever since I went wired on the wii u all of my problems regarding connection in splatoon disappeared. I have yet to experience connection issues in this game, except for one time where the whole lobby disconnected except for me (I got dropped from the lobby afterwards, my rank didn't go down if I recall correctly)
so yeah :'3
I had to get a USB to Ethernet adapter. You will need to probably mess with the NAT in your router like I did. Once I hooked it up I rarely get communication errors. I got this one and works like a charm.
UGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0 to Ethernet RJ45 Lan Gigabit Adapter for 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Supports Nintendo Switch Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MqHGzb8QYD64J
Get a wired adapter: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/
Hook it up to ethernet.
If you need a network switch, there are plenty of dirt cheap network switches out there so you can have your PC & switch hooked up to the same ethernet connection.
Update: Ethernet adapter arrived today, and the setup worked! I use Private Internet Access as my VPN, and a UGREEN Ethernet adapter, but in theory, pretty much any VPN and any Switch-compatible Ethernet adapter should work. Connected my laptop to the VPN, then connected my Switch to the laptop and everything worked with no problems!
I have only tested with Splatoon 2 (and my only other online game is Super Bomberman R, so I can't test Mario Kart for you), but the NAT type went from D to B, so I would expect all games to work.
Hopefully this works for you (and anyone else trying this)! And PM me if you want to play some Splatoon, need people to play with lol
The only accessory you request that I can suggest is a Skinomi screen protector. I like the Tech Skin (not glass) line myself. I've used them on several phones and the quality is consistent. They are slightly different than most plastic screen protectors, as they have a kind of rubbery feel.
What really sets them apart is the method in which you apply it. You get the screen and the protector wet and this allows it to slide around, making it super easy to line up perfectly. It will dry in a couple hours and be completely set up after a day or two. You'll usually notice some wrinkles, but they should go away after it's completely dry (day or two). 9$ for two, can't be beat.
I can suggest another thing, but I've never used it myself. Only heard that it is compatible with the switch. UGREEN Lan Adapter
I had the same issue, wanted to be a cheapo and not spend almost 30 dollars on the official one, so I bought one for like..10 or 12 or something on amazon. Didn't work.
So I bought another cheaper one off amazon and this one DOES work. So i probably woulda been better off with the offical. But anyway, heres the one I have atm that does indeed work!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Im in the UK and the nintendo brand one is £25 which is ridiculous.
This the one I bought and I've had no issues
All for something which really should have been included for a home console.
The problem isn't as much your internet as it is the switch's awful wireless :/ the Wii U was the same story man. I had this problem and using the LAN adapter really smoothed the experience out. On top of the switch having a bad wireless signal is the fact that the Splatoon servers have an 11 tick per second update rate. So having an inconsistent signal on your device makes disconnects happen more often :) so, not your fault in any way man.
This would be my suggestion https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kK3AzbGWASHY3
I ordered this and plugged it into the USB 3.0 port on the dock. I pay for 50Mbps from my ISP. On wifi, my Switch tests around 20-30Mbps but on my new wired connection with a Cat6 cable I'm only getting 5.8Mbps.
Does anyone know what the issue might be?
What are your wireless download speeds? I've read that the Switch won't go above 50mbps with both a wireless ac router and a gigabit adapter. If you are set on wired though, reviews say this works with the Switch UGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493448812&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Nintendo+switch+gigabit&psc=1
Hey I had problems for plugable lan adapter from amazon.ca. so I decided to buy ugreen one. They described as "compatible with switch". And I got it and it works fine. It looks even cheaper than plugable in canada. I know you already got one but I just wanna let you know. Here's link below https://www.amazon.ca/UGREEN-Ethernet-1000Mbps-Compatible-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1490407044&sr=8-2&keywords=ugreen+lan+adapter
Haven't the AmazonBasics one, but UGreen adapters (USB 3 for Gigabit Ethernet or USB 2 for 10/100 if you want to save a couple of bucks) works both great.
Network engineer here. I agree, breaking out a laptop to test ports can be cumbersome and I got tired of it. Have you considered getting a Netool or Pockethernet? Depending on your needs, either may be a good idea. I went for a Pockethernet (wanted PoE readings) but either can be a good choice and have been widely well received. You operate them from your phone, over bluetooth, and via proprietary apps.
Also, I just plugged in an ethernet adapter via the USBC-to-USBA adapter to my Pixel 3 and ethernet worked just fine. Wi-Fi turned off and a new icon appeared in its place that looks like this: "<--->" I also checked the phone's IP address through a network utility app and it received an IP address from my home router, different from the Wi-Fi address. So, DHCP saw a dedicated ethernet MAC address.
Edit: I would also like to note that the ethernet speeds supported 1 GB/s, according to multiple speed tests maxing out my home speeds at a few hundred Mb/s. So, it should be a 10/100/1000 connection.
It needs to have a specific chipset to work. Get the ugreen adapter from Amazon. It's cheaper than the official and supports up to USB 3.0 (which will be supported in a future update)
I've been using the UGreen Ethernet Adapter for almost three years with zero issues. $16 on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
Yes, speed and stability. There are a couple of decent ones on Amazon for $15.
I looked through my amazon order history and found what exactly I ordered to get gigabit on the fire cubes. You can use this adapter and this cable and you'll be up and running.
This one would be easier to use with firesticks.
Just ran an internet speed test app on one of the firecubes and got 292/249Mbps results with gigabit internet. Local lan speeds are better than that, but don't expect miracles over usb2.
I have this one on my LG CX and it works like a charm. I get an avg of 320mbps. I do not have problems with it, I’ve never had to unplug it since I plugged it for the first time.

Just get one on Amazon if you're concerned about your WiFi speed...https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
I bought this one off eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/312316683837
It works for: USB-C power adaptor plugged into USB-C port closest to end will power unit, the other USB-C will not deliver power.
USB 3.0 ports work with wireless keyboard, hard drive, USB drives.
I cannot get the ethernet port to work. I have tried other ethernet adaptors and none work via USB-C.
Allegedly this works: July 2 post by moyekj https://www.tivocommunity.com/community/index.php?threads/usb-c-what-works-and-what-doesnt.577408/page-9
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
The USB-C port is USB 2.0 so you won't get 1GB speed with an ethernet adaptor.
The Chromecast Ultra power/ethernet adaptor works to provide ethernet via the micro USB port but it is USB 2.0 not USB 3.0.
I'm pretty sure you can't get more than 120 fps with an hdmi port involved (especially with QHD). However you can use an adaptator like this (https://www.dell.com/fr-fr/shop/adaptateur-mobile-dell-usb-c-da300/apd/492-bcjl/accessoires-pour-ordinateurs?ref=p13n_ena_pdp_vv&c=fr&cs=frdhs1&l=fr&s=dhs ) to be able to use display port and ethernet at the time. You can also go to an usb to ethernet (https://www.amazon.fr/UGREEN-Adaptateur-Ethernet-Supporte-Sup%C3%A9rieur/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1551448458&sr=8-1&keywords=adaptateur+usb+ethernet ) if you don't want to buy the hub.
IMPORTANT: You won't benefict from the G-sync with your XPS, since the Intel GPU is used for the display (not the Nvidia). You can't change that. You might me able to benefict from it if you use an e-gpu + Hub.
Moreover I assume you want this screen for gaming : you will absolutely never be able to have any game running at 165 constant fps + 1440p on an XPS, even with undervolt, disabling turbo boost, overclocking the gpu, repast and any form of cooling. Tbh only top gaming desktop can achieve that. I can barely run Rocket League at 100 constant fps in 1080p on mine.
If you want a good screen monitor that is not overkill for your laptop if would recommand this (https://www.amazon.fr/Samsung-LC24FG73FQUXEN-Ecran-QLED-1920/dp/B071RP6WVL/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8)
He's got a Raspberry Pi 4b. This is the USB to Ethernet adapter. I guess it uses the AX88179 chipset?
I have been using this adapter without issue.
Use the dell commander software to update the firmware on the dock and install latest drivers. I've been seeing a lot of dell issues with windows 11 and network cards as of late. I recommend getting the ugreen usb nic adapter.
Download dell command update tool here.

You can run wired ethernet with a stick using an adaptor like this.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/
The sticks all support 5ghz and AC WiFi. They really are a pleasure to use especially 4k and Max.
Here you go. Problem solved. What's next?
UGREEN USB Ethernet Adapter USB 3.0 to 10 100 1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter

Actually I found it on my amazon account.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it does support that speed so I'm gonna have to try it.
Here is one that is relatively cheep if you want one
Based on what you said, its probably the onboard ethernet. If you are comfortable with working on electronics, have the equipment required, and schematic for your motherboard, you could try to find what is wrong (could be the port, fuse, trace, chip, etc.) and try to repair it. With that said, you could just buy a USB 3 to ethernet adapter (https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18) and call it a day.

it is very convinent to use a usb ethernet adapter. try this one:
so i started looking into getting a cheaper alternative for the ethernet adapter for the switch since the price for the nintendo branded one is around 30 euros and feels a bit steep, and was wondering if people had any recomendations around 12-18, i found this one https://www.amazon.es/Ethernet-UGREEN-Adaptador-1000Mbps-Port%C3%A1tiles/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=nintendo%2Bswitch%2Bethernet&qid=1613904212&s=electronics&sr=1-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzMVhWSVFGNUpWUVBGJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDc0NjI5WUJaUjdTTEw1MzMzJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA3ODM1NzgyVFlRTUFMSVA3MVpNJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1 , but some people say it works, others says it doesnt. can someone help me please?
I have this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_H94bGbPA99QEV
Had it for a for about a month. So far so good

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this is the one I used since launch. Works fine. Note: this is .ca Canada amazon.
En Amazon el adaptador de 3.0 está a 15k con costo de envío y todo https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18
Seeing as how 100% of ethernet adapters have cables going in or out either end, no adapter will truly fit in that space, unless you wanted to drill/cut a divot out for the ethernet to exit out of that right side.
Both the UGREEN and the Amazon Basics adapters will fit in the empty space inside the back panel, but not inside the little portion you have marked.
I recently bought a ugreen lan for my Switch, which is also fully compatible to Linux. I tried it with Linux once and it was plug and play. It’s thin one Amazon Link
This along with the other adaptor to allow it to connect to the firestick.
I don’t have this one but it appears that the Ugreen adapter works for what you want. I found this video that shows the it fits (3:00)
Wrong. They aren't nearly as expensive as you think and this is without sales or anything. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=asc_df_B00MYTSN18/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198076677096&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14630273431501546589&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=...
External storage is something you have to buy for the shield too. Facepalm
you could buy a gigabit to usb3 adapter on amazon for 57AED.
I don’t know, but I do know this one works because I bought it a couple of weeks ago:
UGREEN Ethernet Adapter, Gigabit Lan Network Adapter 1000Mbps USB 3.0 to RJ45 Adaptor for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP; Linux; Mac OS 10.6 and Higher, Compatible with Macbook, Nintendo Switch etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nEq8EbWCDVRZZ
Crucially, the cable is just long enough so that the Ethernet “box” sits comfortably outside the Switch. The reason I didn’t buy one of the Amazon basics ones is because some reviewers said the cable was just too short so you had to leave the dock’s backflap open all the time because the Ethernet “box” doesn’t fit inside it. Maybe a minor thing but it would annoy me! That’s why I went for the above. Works great!
Edit: US link: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18 - pretty sure that’s the same one I got.
Yep, all Switch models are WiFi only. You need an adapter in order to use ethernet
There’s an officially licensed one, but there are alternatives that are cheaper. A couple examples are Ugreen and Amazon Basics
There’s others, but they need to be a certain chipset to work on the Switch. Just make sure that it’s one many people have confirmed that it works on the Switch
It has to be the same chipset as the official one, so you can use third party ones such as the ugreen and Amazon Basics adapters
I would just check and make sure others were able to use the adapter on their Switch. Not all third-Party adapter will work
The ugreen and Amazon Basics adapters are two common alternatives
I can't personally speak to the reliability of other adapters. I suppose you can look at reviews on Amazon. This one seems to be well-reviewed.
Which adapter are you using? I ordered this one per recommendation.
Well i was thinking about getting rPi 4B, not sure about how VLAN's work but i wish rPi's came with 2 ethernet ports, was thinking about using the usb c for that purpose but heard its required for the input power.

Q: I can't just use a USB 3.0 to ethernet port RJ45 and buy one on Amazon to supplement the other ethernet port?

Also, i realized the ROCKPro64 has a PCIe x4 slot that i can use for a NIC. All this adds to costs :\ This would be quite expensive but in my opinion somewhat worth it though price would be $110 or so.
Curious as if the data power from the PCIe expansion slot will be able to power such as a Intel NIC.

I do not have a switch, only r7800 router and att bgw-210 modem.

Also this setup is meant to REPLACE the modem, correct?
OR,
Is it to REPLACE the router and bypass the modem, because the Ubiquiti USG is pretty much that. I don't need another router. I really want to learn how to code so i can remove the ATT BGW-210 out of my network and somehow understand networking enough to where i can use a rPi 4B for this purpose and replace the BGW-210 with that. It's also very small, i was thinking about incorporating it into my router (Netgear R7800 x4s 2600) but that won't work as it's too think a bit so just place it on top with a heatsink will suffice.

This is what I got and it works great.
As far as I know Switch supports only two USB to Ethernet adapter chips. One is USB 2 and the other is USB 3. So majority of USB 3 Ethernet adapters will not work. This one should work: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/
I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/
I also heard the AmazonBasics adapter works great, and is even cheaper: AmazonBasics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M77HMU0/
>https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/
Thanks for sharing this. I'll opt for the USB 3.0 then in case Nintendo ever supports it.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I personally haven't had any issues with this USB 3.0 ethernet adapter, but it does cause the Switch to run slightly warmer than normal while idle/asleep. Turning the system off will prevent this from happening.
I use this: UGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0 to Ethernet RJ45 Lan Gigabit Adapter for 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Supports Nintendo Switch Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_C1vjCb7570AAB
So i was considering buying this UGREEN LAN adapter, as i've seen people here saying it's the best one you can get for the switch, but i saw that this one was available as well and also functions as a USB hub, which i need because all my ports are taken up. Does anyone know if there's any difference between these two speed wise?
I'm considering buying the one with a USB hub, but if the normal UGREEN Network Adapter is better i might just buy a seperate hub.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_EYUaCb83PXSTX This is the one that I bought. Works nicely.
Nintendo also makes one that's the same thing and a couple bucks more expensive.
Edit: mobile shenanigans
Purchased a Ugreen ethernet adapter from Amazon and it works great on my switch currently. Ugreen ethernet adapter
Hey just thought I'd ask, I saw a similar version with no extra USB slots. Just having the one USB output is fine for the Switch isnt it?
Nothing special on the LAN adapter required. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543469038&sr=1-5&keywords=ugreen+ethernet+adapter
You'll need this to connect it directly to Switch: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Type-C-Gen1-Female-Adapter/dp/B01GGKYYT0
Its your internet connection, if you are playing docked buy an adapter from USB to Ethernet it helps. (From experience) Get it here Dongle Thingy
I've been using the ugreen usb 3.0 to rj45 adapter since launch and it's been rock solid. It's internally identical to the official nintendo one, just half the price.
They do not. It's kinda annoying. You can get an adapter for it though and it works well. I've been using this one and haven't had any troubles with it.
you can just get this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
it works great
This is the one I've been using since launch with no issues. Never a dropped connection.
There are a couple of good ones that work on Amazon. The USB port in the back of the Switch is capable of USB 3.0, but it is currently USB 2.0 until they software patch 3.0 in.
Here they are:
UGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0
Plugable USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter
They don’t all work. It has to have a compatible chipset.
These two definitely work:
The monoprice one I saw isn't compatible with the switch; this is the one I use since launch and it's been flawless.
I generally make my own cables. No issues with speed.
The ethernet adapter I use
The ethernet cable I use
I Cut it to needed lengths and crimp new connectors on. Easy as pie.
It’s probably a chipset issue. These two work:
I was considering picking this up, but wanted to use it with. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/. FFTA2 is one of the lucky people to order a Classic).
I'm using this and it works great. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/
Get this one. It's often recommend, I have it, it works great with the switch and anything else you might want to use it with.
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18/
Yeah. This is the one I bought, there might be better ones but I know for a fact this one works.
Get a LAN adapter and an ethernet cable. Plug the LAN adapter into the dock. Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the LAN adapter, and the other end into a LAN port on your router. On the Switch, go into Settings, then navigate to Internet>Internet Settings and select Wired Connection.
See Nintendo's site for more detail
The Switch's wifi is pretty bad. I play wired and have had 0 disconnects.
Just order these and you'll be out of your misery my friend.
I got the save Ethernet adapter and it didn't work for me either. Did a bit of research and got this instead and it works perfectly.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_Q0avzb80R1ZR7
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/
I'm using this and it works great! Getting great speeds.
> support for ethernet which are advantages against Xiami's MiBox
Or you get this, and no issues:
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network-Adapter/dp/B00MYTSN18
According to some post here USB type C to ethernet adapter it seems to work right undocked. Also in docked mode a "generic" usb-a to ethernet works for sure, I have this one who works perfectly. Just make sure the third party LAN adapter have ASIX AX88179 chipset.
I just got this one and it works fine.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one works. It's the usb 3.0 version of the one in the OP.
better than that, if you're in the uk or can find one similar, this one works and is 1Gbps USB 3.0: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AXZ3JQ1GVFPIF
Thanks, linksys looks good as well.
I now ordered this one ( http://www.amazon.de/Gigabit-Ethernet-Netzwerkadapter-1000Mbps-Windows/dp/B00MYTSN18 ) and hope that it will work.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You do know Nintendo is not the only one who makes ethernet cables right ????
Unfortunately, the one I got is sold out. Put pretty much any newer one should work, but obviously do a bit of research on it first.
On my phone and laptop wireless, I get around 256mbps, PS4 Pro around 180.
I have this one UGREEN Network Adapter USB 3.0 to Ethernet RJ45 Lan Gigabit Adapter for 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Supports Nintendo Switch Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYTSN18/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S6aaBbQ7C7R52
