Instead of using the longer cable that came with it, I use This, it’s short enough that you don’t need to bundle it up and big enough that you will have a little slack, (I suggest getting 2, I had one break on me for bending like crazy for a long time). ALSO, I had a bad experience with the cable that goes from the headset to the wireless adapter, I waited 5 months to end up buying a vive pro and getting that cable sent to me from tech support later. If you ever need one shoot me a dm and I’ll sell it to you.
I used UGREEN USB 3.0 A to A Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P0E3954/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-oEjBbZ69R9XS , I don't know what would happen with your system but with my risers (N N oraine risers) it works fine. I hope you find something that works, this should probably work
I use a paper clip as a jumper to put the Gotek in Programming mode.
The USB A-2-A cable [https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Transfer-Enclosures-Printers-Cameras/dp/B00P0E3954/?th=1] costs $5.09 USD; the Gotek [https://www.amazon.com/Emulator-1-44MB-Industrial-Control-Equipment/dp/B09LR7P6VV/
] costs $25.78 USD; the firmware is shareware [https://github.com/keirf/flashfloppy/releases/download/v3.33/flashfloppy-3.33.zip] as is the Artery programming software [https://www.arterychip.com/download/TOOL/Artery_ISP_Programmer_V2.0.03.zip] is gratis for using their product.
Or you could just down vote me again...
You mean a male to male USD 3.0 cable? Here’s an example.
It's on my employer because I got these for free. I just want to make use of them.
When you say an A-A cable. do you mean something like this? https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Transfer-Enclosures-Printers-Cameras/dp/B00P0E3954 If so, I'm failing to imagine why this cable configuration would be damaging. Exactly what could someone do with that to cause damage?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "by themselves they are just fine".
To be clear, I want to know if something like this, but not necessarily this particular device: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-QianLink-Compatible-Chargers-Standard/dp/B07S617LN1/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=usb+ctoa+adapter+male&qid=1595451261&s=electronics&sr=1-2 is safe to use with those enclosures.
The first thing I'd check is to make sure that the jumpers in the back are configured correctly. If I'm remembering correctly, JA and S1 should be jumpered.
The default firmware for the Goteks isn't the greatest. My recommendation would be to put the open-source FlashFloppy firmware onto the device.
That said, Goteks don't generally include the header pins that are required in order to program the new firmware. This means that you'd need to be comfortable with a soldering iron so that you can attach a set of pins.
My recommendation is to use the USB programming method to update the firmware. Other than a soldering iron and solder, you'd need to have the following items:
With all of that available, you would follow the directions here to flash the firmware.
I can help with other questions on that process if you do want to go that route.
