FYI - in case you didn't know, there is literally a Christmas light gun that you can plug into half-working strings of lights that will revive them again.
This is the gun I mean.
You literally just find the first dead bulb in the series, plug the gun into that socket, pull the trigger a few times, and boom - the string lights up like new.
I bought it in a retail store because it was like 12 bucks on clearance and figured "worse it could do is nothing". The damn thing fixed every string of lights in my "Christmas bin".
Depending on if these are LED or not, there is this silly looking ‘gun’ you can get off of Amazon or at Walmart this time of year that can fix these! Sometimes it’s just a burned out light, which you would need to replace, but often it’s a short in the bypass that the run thing can fix. ultra light keeper
Here’s a link to one off Amazon, and they actually work pretty dang well.
Get yourself one of these bad boys! I have one for Christmas lights and it works surprisingly well. You’ll have to read and make sure it works for your kind of lights, but assuming it does, I highly recommend it!

Get one of these They work! You'll plug in a socket that you pull a bulb out of, click it a few times and it will light up. Alternatively, it can also help you locate bulbs that are blown.
We would have thrown out our older artificial tree due to dead strands years ago if not for this thing.
Makes fixing the strands infinitely less tedious than the old "check every single bulb one at a time" plan.
Buy one of these. It will pay for itself the first year you use it.

It seems like a crap money-grubbing scam, but it really works and will save you from buying new strings and bulbs every year. It's amazing.
I watched a bunch of youtube videos about this tool and it seems really awesome. All the professional light installers use it. :) I'll let you know how it pans out for me once I get mine in the mail tonight!

Incandescent bulb. It's the bulb used in "Holiday Miniature Light" strands, and needs a special tool to fix:

Grab one of these, it will help alot.
Just start at one end and test the bulbs, test the sockets with a non contact tester or the above bulb tester to make sure its not a socket misbehaving, and there is voltage. Also make sure a socket doesnt have a bent or missing contact plate or the bulb isnt missing or have a bent contact; as that may be the problem with the failed continuity.
If they don't work, buy one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-01201-Complete-Fixing-Miniature/dp/B000R8KBOK
It looks and sounds like a worthless piece of crap that would never work, but it really does and it's amazing.
Bought me one of these a few years ago, works like a charm. It repairs those faulty sockets with a click of the trigger. http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-01201-Complete-Fixing-Miniature/dp/B000R8KBOK
Extra string of lights is a great tip. Also consider one of these light repair guns!

Happy Holidays everyone!
