How do I ensure newly bought HDDs aren't bad before putting them into my NAS? Windows-only btw.
I bought this USB to SATA HDD dock hoping that it would read my 12TB x 2 HDDs, but when I open up HDDScan, it can't find them. The dock claims to work for 16TB x 2. I even tried finding them with diskpart
. I'm so sad right now. One of my NAS drives is starting to go bad, so I'm limited on time :(
Other than searching eBay for the HDD cage, you might have to go for an external solution like a USB 3.0 to SATA dock "toaster" or a 3.5 inch enclosure. Also search for HDD mounts, but that might entail drilling into the metal case.

Alternatively, If you don't plan on moving the PC anywhere, you might try double sided tape, as long as you DON'T LET THE HDD CIRCUIT BOARD TOUCH ANY METAL.
