“Murder mystery” kits sold on Amazon. You’ll have to google around for them but they are basically interactive puzzles with clues and you try to solve the case by examining fake evidence. You can do it alone or with a friend.
Here’s an example detective mystery kit
Hunt of killer is a lot of fun! Tbh the one "downfall" of it is the monthly part. It is all apart of the same story (6 months I think?) So we struggled with the break in between. But they do let you get your next month early if you want! It is on the pricer side but its fun!
It's very similar to one we did on Amazon - is recommend trying this first as it's just one case/game as opposed to 6 games worth. Exit the game was our favorite escape room type. They have different "episodes" and are rated for difficulty. We started at the easy and moved our way up. We've played the entire series. The one con is that there are parts of it that you literally will tear up or cut apart - you can't pass it on to anyone. But for $15 or so a game it was worth it to us. You can order off their website or they are all on Amazon.
Escape Room the game (3 thrilling escape rooms - they also have an expansion) we got from Walmart but have also seen at Target & Amazon. Some of the puzzles were hard to figure out because they weren't logical. Like we had to look it up after a certain point and once we found out the answer we still couldn't connect the dots to how they got the answer. This is what we got after playing ALL the exit games so we were pretty familiar with puzzles & thinking out the box... Never finished the series.
Unlock! Is highly rated - they also have a ton of "episodes". We tried 3 different ones and just really didn't like the flow of them. But again we started with the exit and just really like it. You can get on Amazon.
Escape Room in a box The Warewolf Experiment we didn't really enjoy either. It was more kid-aimed. There were word searches and "craft" like puzzles that didn't take any thought. Found at Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
I want to rewatch season 3 but I didn't like it much when it aired. I know it's not the popular opinion. If I ever collect my thought I may post about it but for me the end of FWWM was it. The final scene with Laura in the white lodge crying and laughing was all the resolution I needed.
Anyway that game is the kind of thing I'd like to see these books made as.
Ich finds unglaublich hervorragend was du alles schlussfolgern kannst.
You guys could always get totally new hobbies, like board games, jigsaw puzzles, painting dates (ex. you each start a photo and every 5 mins swap canvases and build onto it), clay building, mini modeling, go thrifting and buy each other full outfits for under $20 (maybe a joke outfit to make each other look as silly as possible and then a serious outfit you would actually wear out - or an outfit you think they'd like and then an outfit you think you'd like), etc.
Alternatively, you could pick up hobbies that are new to both of you but have ties to each of your respective interests. Maybe an "escape room" board game that has murder elements (as she likes true crime), such as this one, and then maybe a star wars jigsaw puzzle for you.
Good luck, and have fun with the bonding!
We've played a quite a few of the unsolved case files and werewolf games and it lead me to a similar idea as you have here. I'm really surprised there isn't more "2nd screen" (I think that is the right term) games out there. The closest equivalent I can think of is the jackbox games where you're playing on your smart TV and there is an element where everyone uses their phones.
I think it would be a no brainer for someone to build a murder mystery style game that has a smart TV app and then a cell phone portion. The smart tv app guides through the general flow of the game and then assignments/tasks/clues can be done via individual phones.
I've gotten so far as to start thinking about developing something. If done well it would be awesome.
Perhaps a murder mystery game?
I got a friend a Jules and Vetiver fragrance bar kit for her birthday and it was a hit, would be a great gift for someone who is hard to shop for. It’s a custom perfume, they send you all the difference fragrance notes and then they’ll mix up your selections. They’ll keep the info so you can reorder too!
This artist will take your kids art and do a portrait over it. Going to commission one for my niece’s first birthday.
I got all my friends Birdie alarms and pepper spray because a couple have been harassed in their parking garages and idk it’s probably dumb but anything to feel less vulnerable?
A couple people are getting a cold case file game because we’re all nuts and they’ll love it.
My cousin is officially a tween and I got her one of the Kendra Scott heart necklaces. It’s “real jewelry” but not crazy fancy and she LOVES IT. Her 7yo brother got a science of ice cream maker from kiwico.
My husband is getting a Burger Show tshirt and both George Motz burger cookbooks. If you’ve got someone who likes a particular YouTube channel merch is always an easy gift :)
No idea what I’m getting my mom yet, but planning to get my MIL an ice cream maker because she was complaining that her old one was finally starting to fail.
Amazon has a few Amazon murder mysteries
While researching, I did find a game that is somewhat similar - Unsolved Case Files (Amazon). Hopefully this helps.
Amazon has “detective kits for adults.” That’s all you have to search to find games like this where you solve a fake crime with the evidence envelopes they supply.
