The battery packs with integrated panels kinda suck at charging. You're much better off getting a larger standalone panel and a large-capacity bank to charge when you're in camp.
This panel gets pretty good reviews, although I haven't personally tried it: https://www.amazon.com/BigBlue-Foldable-Waterproof-SunPower-Cellphones/dp/B01EXWCPLC/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=big+blue+28w&qid=1623856737&sr=8-2

ha i ganci da appendere allo zaino e da chiuso è grande come un libro
It's way too heavy to backpack with, but in the interest of talking about portable solar chargers: I have a Big Blue 28w charger and so far I really like it.
I have used it: in the backyard to test it, at the beach, and while motocamping for 2 nights and it worked flawlessly each time.
The problems so far:
-it's unreliable to charge a device with directly; it works way better you charge a powerbank
-this is probably my own issue, but it's annoying to have to move it around constantly to get good sunlight (related: trying to use it while in a heavily wooded or shaded area will be pointless)

What I like about it so far:
-it's very easy to use, set up, move around
-I'm able to go camping for extended periods of time without worrying about needing my phone and not being able to use it because it's dead
-it is a little bulky but overall very easy to find a place for it in my pack
The lowest tier for solar is getting a foldable usb solar charger like one of these:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01EXWCPLC/
A bit pricy but was worth it over the last few days anyways. There are more expensive ones and cheaper ones, but in full sun this one works well enough!
It came with some clips to use to hang it, I hung it in our south-facing sunroom by rigging up some hangers with zip ties around our blinds.
It would probably also work well laying flat, but I liked the approach of hanging it as I was able to move it from window to window as the sun moved through the sky pretty easily.
In cloud cover i would need to have my phone on airplane mode with all radios turned off to see any charge, but in full sun it charged pretty quickly, 10% in half an hour or so. I have an iphone SE FWIW, so not an enormous phone. For my ipad, it only barely charged it. For the power bank, it is harder to tell as it only has 4 lights to indicate power level on it, though it has a huge capacity so i am sure it would take a while to fully charge, as even on the grid it takes all day to charge up lol.
Thank you a lot for the input.
I work from home, in night shifts. So I would just charge it during day when it's off and use it up at night, with the last 1-2 hours per shift going with the normal wall plug. Since my window is facing west, it's kinda ideal. Perhaps, if it works well and I get a deal, I'd get a power bank as backup. I just don't want to pay too much up front for an experiment.
The laptop is designed to charge from USB, I'm just kinda worried that the laptop won't charge with just 5V4A, seeing how expensive solar chargers still are nowadays. The powerbank I am looking at is around the maximum amount I want to pay without previous experiences. It doesn't offer any extras abd just has 2 usb ports though.
A hiking solar panel will keep the battery charged until it dies in 8-10 years.
This solar panel did a spectacular job of charging my 2 battery packs (20,000mah and 10,000mah) and the following devices: cell phone, DSLR camera, GoPro, Garmin watch, and speaker. I was never even close to being out of power.

Thanks! Agreed that the all-in-one is a disaster recipe.
I'm seeing this one based on your description of the BigBlue foldable 28w: https://www.amazon.com/BigBlue-Foldable-Waterproof-SunPower-Cellphones/dp/B01EXWCPLC/
Last question is what battery did you end up with? Thanks again.
Yeah, I have a lightweight and very portable solar panal from BigBlue that can charge a power bank to recharge any flashlight battery. It’s actually a lightning deal right now.

Something like this https://www.amazon.com/BigBlue-Foldable-Waterproof-SunPower-Cellphones/dp/B01EXWCPLC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=portable+solar+charger&qid=1617168910&sr=8-3
and a battery.
Or you could plug your phone straight into it.
(I’m not a solar expert) All you really need is a solar panel that has an output than can plug the battery. You need a charging cable with a usb to lightning end and a panel with an output of at least 5 volts. I would look up “folding solar panel” on amazon and find something you like the looks of. This would work https://www.amazon.com/BigBlue-Foldable-Waterproof-SunPower-Cellphones/dp/B01EXWCPLC
I’m not familiar with the company or this product so it’s NOT a recommendation, just an example of a solution.
Don't know the power requirements for your chargers, but I've used this - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EXWCPLC - for 3 years to charge phones, power banks, and tablets, and have had zero issues. Folded up it's pretty narrow and about as thick as a magazine. It comes with some carabineers to hang depending on where the sun is, and I've hung it from my pack during some hikes
Yes: full sun and angled to face the sun. Odd, maybe it's bad.
I want it to run 2 fans (1amp total) and to recharge a battery bank at the same time. (It's for a bike trip where they haul your gear from place to place.) Maybe I'll just try something like this for $60:
kind'a large but i have this one and like it.
i like this one
It looks like the same portable one I bought from Amazon.
Hi. Just want to suggest to you to maybe add this type of solar charger to your list.

I bought one after our big power outage and it works great to charge phones. I think it can charge 4 USB devices at once or something.
I can think of few things as useless as a nuclear bunker in your basement.
That aside, yes, people should absolutely have emergency plans for extended power outages. For communications, at the very least people should have some sort of portable solar charger for their phones, just as an example.
They aren't that expensive. Best paired with an external battery capable of charging a phone multiple times. Here's an example (just via a quick search on Amazon):
https://www.amazon.ca/BigBlue-Foldable-Waterproof-SunPower-Cellphones/dp/B01EXWCPLC?
https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Double-Speed-Recharging/dp/B01JIWQPMW/
If your laptop charges with a USB-C plug you could run it with two power banks, and two portable solar chargers probably. Especially if you say there's plenty of sun. For example two each of these should get you at least twelve hours a day notebook time. (You could probably even get an adaptor from USB-C to your notebook if it has a proprietary plug)
The little solar panels on the <$50 power banks are a gimmick. You would be better off buying a separate USB solar panel, along with whatever power bank you want.
I have a usb solar panel and 20,000mah battery bank and it keeps two phones, a kindle and a ue boom running while we’re camping for 3 weeks with no issues.
Also ideally look for a battery with two way charging. This means it can be connected to the wall or solar to recharge the battery while also connected to devices and recharging them.
Good luck

Education? Sorry, why aren't we airdropping $100 solar-powered smartphones everywhere that people live?
Pre-load them with as much educational content as you can. Khan Academy videos or something.
Hopefully some 8 year old kid finds it and learns from it.
Why the hell don't we do this?
